I posted this also in another thread, but it belongs here as well:

And then we're back to the argument as to whether a razor can be "too sharp"?!

What does over-honed mean exactly? (I'm talking in general terms here, not just picking at this article).

I used to be of the mindset that a razor finished above 1 or 3 micron honing + chromo stropping was "too sharp". However, what I have recently found is that it wasn't that the razor was too sharp at that level, but rather my technique was lacking for using a razor finished to that level. By using a lighter touch, an excellent shave is the result.

Sort of like the change from a wedgey grind (which many newbies, such as myself liked to begin with) to a full hollow. I used to hate full hollows--"too harsh!" I thought. Then I improved my technique, and now I love using them. The feedback from them tells you what you are doing right, or wrong. Same with very sharp razors. There is no physical limit to the honing. Lately I finish to 0.1 micron, and the edge is quite smooth and keen. But I certainly can't bear down while shaving, or it will punish me.
I have been usingh the 0.1um edges for about a week, and have been enjoying them. I probably should also re-visit the "duller" 1.0um edge, and see how it feels.
