Found a Quick way to set a bevel......

I put this in the Advanced Honing for a reason..... Newbies don't try this!!!!

So I finished up a polish and blade re-shape the other day and was dreading setting the bevel by hand. I thought..... this blade is not that great..... I should try something different.

I have a Tormek T-7 and thought I would give it a go. I put electrical tape on the spine and lightly laid the blade on the turning stone and went to town.....

Flipped it back and forth from side to side and slowly set the bevel. With a little common sense and visual confirmation, I was able to get a good bevel set in a matter of minutes..... Then off to the 1k to tune it up.

Saved a bunch of time!

Tormek T-7 @ $600.00 :gaah:

Norton 1k @ $57.00 :beer2:

But if it only takes a few minutes to do it by hand, what are you saving? Although it would be fun to give it a try on the Tormek!

I'm working on a new technique myself. Staring with great focus at the razor until the bevel is formed. Seems to be working, provided I rub it against my king 1k while doing so.

What you actually set is called a pre-bevel or a factory bevel (watch the Dovo vid) been using a similar system for quite awhile on razors that need heavy restoration...In fact the Dovo vid was where I got the original idea of how to set a bevel fast after Breadknifing and went from the 3 layers of tape and tons of hand work,(in the Wiki) to about the same thing you used... I only use this on restoration though, but for that it does save time...

You guys are missing the point....... This is for blades that have been worked on and the bevel is terribly round. I spent two+ hours on my 1K to set one and decided that I didn't want to do that again. Tried the coarse DMT Plate and that wasn't right either for me...... I thought I was onto something here. It worked great for me.... Just trying to share my experience. If you have a better way..... share it.

Thanks Glen...... Guess I made a mistake in calling it "Bevel Setting" when in fact I am making a PRE-bevel. Thanks for clarifying that. Newbie mistake.... Sorry guys. Hope this will help things......

I am using the stock stone..... I adjust it with my Blue/Black DMT plate. Has been working well so far.
