Do you have any positive identification on any of those two stones apart from sellers blurb please?
yes i have a inigo jones dragons tongue so i lap both stones today same slurry same feel and same smell and as for the LM is a close match to my small purple stone
Nice! Looking forward to your honing review of this combo stone!!
Yep, I love reading about stones. Count me in as an interested reader.
I almost ordered that one but ordered the three hone set instead. My HAD took over and I had no freewill in the matter:gaah:
I'm curious to see what the mystery 15k stone is like (his estimate), and the LM should be fun
Well I guess putting two stones together and calling it natural combination would be wrong, but calling it a combined natural would have been perfectly accurate. I think the pictures pretty much made it clear what we were looking at. Plus it's not like you're trying to sell it to us. You're just showing us what you got, and letting us read about it. I don't feel misled anyways...oops..rechecked it. Dual natural stone combination would have been more accurate from my viewpoint. But I still don't see any misleading or dubious nature to the post.
I think were spliting hairs here. The seller never said it was a natural combo. He says it was glued togethe and the pictures clearly shows it.
I hope mine arrives soon! :)
Please let us know how it works. After reading this thread, I saw the stone on the bay and the ad indicates they come already lapped and that one side is about 8-10k and the other side is 12-15K--if I'm thinking about the same stone about which you are writing.
I have to say that I have original glued combo of TOS and what looks like Canadian Oilstone by Salmens.
Awesome. This will be fun. Shall we go directly off a 1k bevel? End off the finisher from the duel hone
i was thinking more along the lines of coming off a norton 8k ( as long as everyone that participates has a norton )to the dragons tongue on water and see how it shaves and then to the Lm to see if it improves the edge so what do you think ?
I'm in, I've got a Norton 4k/8k
I'm getting the 3 hone package, DT, LM and mystery slate stone I'll stop at the first 2
Ok thats fine with me. 1k 4/8 norton then on to the duel hone. Shave right off the stone.
How you have is set up it looks like good experiment as it is highly likely that all three combos you have will be from the same material. Reason why I say that is that DT only is notorious with grit variation and behaviour piece from piece.
im looking to keep this experiment on a level playing field( some honers maybe better then others) we should come up with a number count of how many laps should be done on the 8k ,DT,LM and which type of razor should be honed a softer steel or harder steel one?
coming off the 1k the razor should be able to pop hair above the skin level across the whole razor thats the way i ensure that the bevel is set right
Yes of course. Ok so well will all try to pick simular grind. Do you agree with each of us doing our own routine on the stones or shall we first do everything the same first then try our own later.
it would be nice to come off the 1k poping hair above skin level then go to the 4k with counted laps same with the 8k ,DT ,LM so we can determined the true or close to true grit of this glued together hone ,after that then to each his own
are we talking about on the 1k hone if so doesnt matter on that hone as for me on the 1k hone i do back and forth strokes and rotate x pattern in as well the same for the rest of the hone besides the finisher i do back and forth strokes
Maybe we should just get the razor to the "move up" phase when finished with the 8k, then do a set number of laps on the LM.
We probably all get there differently but know when it's ready to move up
Either way i will be fine with. So we just need to agree on how we want to do it.
