So what did you end up paying for it?
About $200. The things immaculate and checked with the seller that it was shave ready and he personally shaved with it. Will give it a whirl and then decide if its worth that amount for me. See quite a few very nice blades going under the hundred mark so it will have to be awesome to warrant owning one duck instead of 2 other good blades!
I think you will find you LOVE IT!
Ducks are GREAT shavers!
Is the Tang still gold?
Any pics of it???
Dubl Duck Golden Edge Straight Razor CUT Throat Knife Mother OF Pearl Vintage | eBay
Thats the listing not sure if it works. But the tang is in great nick with the blue and gold and the brasswork on the scales looks mint. Bit of light polishing and should look brilliant.

STUNNING!
Looks almost BRAND NEW!
Going by the pics it looks like you did quite alright. It does look like new, and following them and seeing what most go for you almost stole it. Enjoy.
Pretty much why i forgave my tablet instead of sending it through the window! Although i had planned on waiting a bit longer before getting a higher end expensive razor. Call it fate!:D
Nice Duck, very clean the gold etching is a little faded but the scales look good no cracks with nice color, there doesn't seem to be any pitting on the blade, the spine looks nice. I think you did good.
I have two Goldenedge Ducks 5/8 & 6/8 I bought them about a year ago for around $100 each. Mine needed a little work to get them shave ready. The one you bought seems to be in better shape. And I like the spike point. Both of mine are spike point, good shavers:)
Any tips on preserving the gold etching other than, don't use it?
Not sure about the etching, someone else will have to chime in on that one. But it's a Duck you have to use it:)
My thoughts exactly! Cars, bikes and razors, no point restoring and looking after them if they just sit in a shed unused!
Just be glad that the mishap was with a DD instead of a no name.
Great looking razor! I just got my first Duck and it shaves smoooooooooooooth.
Enjoy yours and in time the story behind it will turn into a memorable one.
The gold etching is gold. It will hold up against anything chemical really. Doesn't corrode, discolor, anything like that. It is also microscopically thin, so it will wear away in a heartbeat. Plain water and soft rags should keep it looking nice for a long time. Resist all urges to buff it with metal polish or anything the like..
Nice looking razor, have fun with it.
Very nice razor and the price is in accordance with what goldedges bring in that condition AFAIK. As str8fencer said, metal polish will remove gold wash in a heartbeat. Just rinse and wipe with a soft tissue when you're done shaving. Lubing it with a rust preventative is optional depending on your environment. If you need to do it with your others certainly do it with this jewel.
Very nice razor, hope you enjoy it for years to come. It's a good thing there wasn't any shill bidding going on to send the price through the roof!
Nice grab - great condition!
I've got a nice DD Goldedge in excellent condition, and a DD Satin Wedge...love them both!
Congrats!!
Don't blame your miskeying on the computer.
I just sold one of my DD's for a fair amount more than that, so I think its safe to say you did not go wrong! Doesnt look like they will be getting cheaper any time soon.
From what I've seen the price is reasonable and you've got yourself a nice razor.
I spent considerably more on my DD, wasn't trying for a good deal just had to have that DD.
Well as an update to this saga, shaved with this beauty today. I'm not experienced enough to say it was the razor but i had my smoothest/bloodless shave so far with a straight. After 5-6 day growth it was very nice. As a side note, the Aus ebay seller HOYPOLOY was great to deal with and i literally gave it the 50 passes on the strop and was good to go. He said he used a shapton 15k finisher and was very helpful, wouldn't surprise me to find him on here.
