eBay frustrations for European wetshavers...
I have been watching eBay for a couple of weeks now, looking for that $5 bargain I keep hearing about. For me, living in Europe, it can be a frustrating experience, because the majority (or so it seems) of the razors I would want to bid on, and which seem to go for $5-10, only ship to the United States! So, no cheap razors for the Euro boys! Those who ship to Europe sell razors which go for $50+, it seems. Or sell horribly cracked razors no-one in their right mind would want to buy.

Minstrel,
What are you looking for? I have a lot of razors laying around, and I'd sell you one for $10 plus shipping. That would just cover my costs.

Thanked: 0Europe, I just recently purchased a Thiers-Isard razor from france for 9euro, cost me 7 euro to ship is to america, all said and done 20 some dollars, now I'll share a little secret with you, since the post is in french the words straight razor dont appear in the posts. you should be looking for "rasoir coupe chou". i find that since these arent really marketted to the north american buyers you can get bargains on high quality blades. Anyway good luck

FredS:I guess I'm just not looking in the right place. I'm not very experienced with eBay, since I've only used it for about a year.
I thought eBay is eBay, and you can find everything on sale on eBay from one site (i.e. ebay.com), but apparently this isn't so? Have to look through all the different eBay sites "manually" to find the bargains?
Josh: I already have a 5/8 Wester Bros. "Manganese Steel" spike point shave ready straight razor, but am looking for a razor with a round point, maybe a 6/8 if possible. I know there is one at ShavingShop.com for $54.95 new, and I am quite tempted to buy it... In fact, if PayPal hadn't bugged out when I tried to check out, I would have ordered it already.

Ebay str8's
I got a couple of straights from eBay a few weeks ago. They came as a pair, were in fairly good condition (only took a couple of rubs with some fine wet and dry paper), and have now both been honed and are shave ready (thanks to LXemergency and 1 I did myself). The best bit is, they only cost me $26 total (inc shipping USA to UK). Keep looking, one will pop along sooner or later.
Good luck.
Hopefully I have attached a photo of one of them?Last edited by Theone; 02-28-2007 at 08:26 PM. Reason: Added text

try asking the seller a question (i.e will you ship to INSERT YOUR COUNTRY HERE)
i recently got a sweet W&B 8/8 wedge in near mint condition
the listing said no shipping o/s no way
but i asked ...
and he saw i had 100% feedback
he was paid 10 minutes after the auction ended
i had the razor in a week
we both benefitted
now i note that seller advvertises o/s sales to 100% feedbacks only
always ask
the worst they can say is no

Hmmm. I don't think I have any 6/8 round points.
Round points are generally less common, so most of the blades I have are square or spike points.

Thanked: 0Thanks very much
Thanks FredS,
That's exactly the way I look on Ebay, using "coupe chou". Now you've given away my secret . Anyway, I got a Thiers Issard Spartacus(complete with paddle strop) for only 30 Euro's. Sometimes a man can get lucky.
Now I know that in the future I'll have a little more competition

Thanked: 2ebay fustrations for European shavers
every one in awhile I post good straight razors on ebay and I ship world wide. I post shavers not collectors, If it happens to be a collector it's not because I knew it.
My razors are shave ready. I want anyone who wins one of my auctions to enjoy a straight razor shave. An awful lot of time and work goes into restoring a straight razor. Believe me, if you win one of the razors I put on ebay you are getting a bargin.
Right now, I have 5 posted on ebay and my ebay name is vbellissim.
