I was watching (probably along with several other forum members) a U.S. auction of a Palmera 14 that just ended. This was one of those auctions where you falsely get your hopes up: the razor stayed at around $15 for a couple of days with only a few early bidders. It gave you that small hope that maybe people had missed this auction and that the auction was flying under the radar. After all, who's looking at Palmera auctions ending on early Wednesday evening?
Well, it turned out that the more expert bidders were sitting there at the last minute, pushing the razor to a final sale price during the last few seconds to $240.50. The razor is in pretty good shape, but it has some marks/pitting and is by no means NOS:

Watching (and losing) on this auction, made me realize some things about Palmeras. First, these razors seem pretty rare (especially compared to Filis) and not too many auctions pop up for the 14. I did a completed listings search on Ebay, and only a few popped up. Only two razors were from U.S. sellers, while the others were from Spain. I saw only one NOS blade, and the seller wanted $800 (which he did not get before the auction ended). Second, from these listings, it appears that Palmeras now command higher prices that Fillarmonicas. This seems a reversal from the past in which numerous old threads comment edthat Palmeras could be found for less than Fillis. Third, I wonder if the growth of straight razor shaving over the last 5 years, and popularity of the Fili 14, has increased demand for the Palmera 14?
Any other frustrated Palmera hunters out there?
