    Default Palmera 14 auctions

I was watching (probably along with several other forum members) a U.S. auction of a Palmera 14 that just ended. This was one of those auctions where you falsely get your hopes up: the razor stayed at around $15 for a couple of days with only a few early bidders. It gave you that small hope that maybe people had missed this auction and that the auction was flying under the radar. After all, who's looking at Palmera auctions ending on early Wednesday evening?

Well, it turned out that the more expert bidders were sitting there at the last minute, pushing the razor to a final sale price during the last few seconds to $240.50. The razor is in pretty good shape, but it has some marks/pitting and is by no means NOS:

Watching (and losing) on this auction, made me realize some things about Palmeras. First, these razors seem pretty rare (especially compared to Filis) and not too many auctions pop up for the 14. I did a completed listings search on Ebay, and only a few popped up. Only two razors were from U.S. sellers, while the others were from Spain. I saw only one NOS blade, and the seller wanted $800 (which he did not get before the auction ended). Second, from these listings, it appears that Palmeras now command higher prices that Fillarmonicas. This seems a reversal from the past in which numerous old threads comment edthat Palmeras could be found for less than Fillis. Third, I wonder if the growth of straight razor shaving over the last 5 years, and popularity of the Fili 14, has increased demand for the Palmera 14?

Any other frustrated Palmera hunters out there?

I saw that. Never saw Palmera on it. I must admit, I know nothing of them except reputation. Could not make out the backside tang in the pics. No logo?? Looks repinned, if not rescaled. Rough, rough. Those seem too thin to do much sanding, etc.

Passed. I will wait to inherit one of Pixel's as he passes on ..........................................

Wanted one for YEARS...I mean like 6 years! Offered a couple of them recently pretty much NOS... I passed. My focus and tastes have changed. Keep looking for them...I am sure they are worth every penny.

I was watching that auction as well. Big bucks for the condition it was in. Did you guys see pfunkdaddy's new Palmera posted on the #14 thread? That son of a gun looks right on point!

    Pixelfixed,

I know from some of your postings that you must own at least 7 Palmeras (based on that heirloom-quality 7-day set in ivory that you have posted). Out of curiosity, did you acquire your Palmeras all through auctions/classifieds, or did you by any chance find any of them out in the wild?

A friend found about 15 NOS in portugal,I got a few, some from friends in spain,Mine have all been rescaled,Palmera scales are far worse than the worst Fili scales.
Sharpton is right on about them being thin, are extreame bellied hollows. Not alot of meat on the bone for resto work I think.

I was in on that auction up to 122 bucks. Didn't have a shot in hell and not even sure why I was bidding.

Those and the Fillys that are in that bullfight series always bring big dollars. Anyone who is a seasoned veteran of ebay will wait until the last few seconds to send in their top $ ........ if they have any sense. IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
