Ya, That must be the 'Axe Man' stone the competitive lumberjacks prefer to touch up their 'racing axes'.
Really popular with the guys down under, I seem to recall. Have seen them go upwards of 1k.
bizarre price.
I follow these hones as they appear, out of curiosity,,, I've been watching this one & think he will have a hard time getting the usual price on it based on the side shots of the stone. The finish is inconsistent. Another one recently sold , much better finish.
I don't know any more than you do, just that they have a reputation for a very sharp finish on racing axes like Tom said. I saw a, beat to hell one, with consistent finish break $800.00.
One with no chips consistent finish will beak $1,000.00
I hope to find one in an antique store cheap, just to say I have one.
WOW is all I can say. I too will be keeping my eyes peeled in Antique stores.
Someone apparently thinks they have a gold mine!:roflmao
In the "Timber Sports" world they seem to be held in the highest regard...
Which would give you some idea of how sharp those axes are...
And you just know there are cases of them in the back of some warehouse...
