Well, then nothing would change. We have made it clear why we have that rule - to ensure that items posted for sale are actually available, but we can't spend tons of time checking the internet making sure everybody complies with it.
There are a dozen moderators and it's unfair to them to carry the whole burden. Ultimately what happens is what the community wants to happen - if the members turn the other way when they see something that isn't supposed to happen, it means they want that to keep happening and so that's the result.
It would actually be helpful to let us know if you think a certain rule needs to be gone.
All any stalwart member has to do is read the rules, than abide by them.

Yeah, but if everything is left to the honor system we could simplify things and stop having moderators. Just making a bunch of rules and letting everybody honor them or not doesn't really work.
The thing is that in most cases it's not that people don't want to do something, they simply aren't aware about any potential problems. Very few people are intentionally malicious.
Fortunately we do have members who are aware of the rules, and who will report posts, or other violations, such as simultaneous BIN in the classifieds, and in another venue. Hasn't happened often IIRC, but I seem to remember it has happened. Most of our members are conscious of the rules and abide by them, so fortunately there isn't a lot of moderating to do against member issues.
