I just heard back from Val at the Gentleman's Den. My restoration is done. I have seen the pictures and will allow him to post them first to his Facebook page but whoever recommended him has my COMPLETE and UTTER GRATITUDE. Talk about BEAUTIFUL. It is everything I could have hoped for.
I cannot wait . . .
If it is only 27 km away, I would be driving there and picking it up in person. Looking forward to pics.
Beautiful lines on her.
Nice, nice job.
Enjoy the shaves.
Waiting to hear back as to when it is convenient for him to have me pick it up. My next shave will be with THIS blade. Going to be dropping off two more Butchers for service.
Sunday night I will be shaving with this.
More pics.
I need to reiterate my thanks to all here in this thread who discovered where the ad was, but still allowed a relative newcomer to have first crack at this blade. I truly appreciate it.
Saw it on Instagram when I got home today. Looks magnificent Orville!! Can't wait to see it at the next meet.
Had to add, your going to love the shave these old stub tails give.
Glad you like Val, he really does a stellar job - saw that on his page and my jaw dropped - couldn't believe it was the same blade - washers are spectacular, and the edge he puts on a razor - just superb - you will have a memorable shave this Sunday - congrats on that centerpiece razor! :tu
Centrepiece? Yup . . . though he is getting two more Butchers from me Sunday, including my FBO. Both are just hone jobs, though, as the scales have minimal damage and I want to keep them more "original".
Val has done all my razors for the last two years...I knew you'd love his work, and the edge he can put on a razor is out of this world, you really scored with that razor and it looks fantastic, congratulations again, I can feel the burn of wanting to get it in hand.
Will be looking for that beauty in a SOTD....
So, here it is . . . Christmas morning and I have to wait until AFTER the breakfast dishes are washed, and Church is over, to open my present.
Phooey.
Now I know why people learn to do their OWN resto work. Waiting SUCKS.
Yes, but you're getting top quality work that we can all see is perfection for a rare razor that deserves it. I do my own work but I'm still holding off on a few that I won't undertake until I think I can do a better job.
These two are very much like yours and I'd hope to do as fine a job as Val some day:

The WB is the same as yours but says PATENT TEMPER'D STEEL on the tang.
The other a John Barber Old English.
Hart . . . the W&B that says "Patent Tempered Steel" on the tang . . . is "Wade and Butcher" etched on the blade? I have a razor with those exact words on the tang, and what looks like it "could" be the remnants a W&B on the blade. Only the bottom of the letter is visible, so it is hard to say for sure, but this would help.
Why yes it is. You couldn't see that in the first pic?

Missed that this was the one you were referencing. My mistake. I have one with that stamp on the tang, but the lettering is in the middle of the blade, not the spine like it is on the one Val restored for me.
And yes, the fact that I am posting means that I have my razor back, with two more off to the Master's stones. The sahve is going to have to wait for a bit as I need to go out with my daughter, but I spent a good 45 minutes chatting with Vall about razors and such. Learned a few things, too. also stopped in at LEe Valley and ordered the Arkansas stone I wanted as a Finisher. Good day to be me.
Andrew you were NOT kidding . . . first pass was a little rough as I waited an extra day so I could use it. Second pass? I literally pulled the edge off my skin . . . it just seemed to be sliding across my skin way too smoothly and quickly for there not to be something wrong. Nope . . . only thing I could find was a distinct lack of facial hair where this edge went. Only went for a facial shave so as to compare to other razors I own. Pfft . . . there IS no comparison. Whoever mentioned the word "showpiece" was bang on. Tuesday I run this edge over the whole schmear and see how that goes. LOVE this blade and I am ecstatic to have two more in the pipeline with Val.
