since i was looking for a straight razor, i had contacted to some sellers from US, to ask about shipping conditions (to europe), more pictures (if needed). i don't know why many replies from sellers were so rude, i understand ( but not sure) if they had some bad experience with oversea sellings but even i think a kind of reply to message needed. well now i found what i was looking but still don't understand the mean response from US sellers. :shrug:
Don't take it personally I have gotten some surprising responses from US sellers. I sell on the bay too and I'd rather not ship to some places. Last week a buyer from Turkey backed out of a sale because the shipping was to much. I think some people are just rude and should probably be doing something else. Keep the faith.
I don't sell there but I buy a lot. I wonder if sometimes you miss the description ( I only ship to the 48 states) ? When you ask rude people (just in case) if they would make an exception or didn't notice this , they see it as a PITA asking something they already answered.
On the flip side I have made some friends with sellers both in my town ,that I have had the opportunity to shake hands with, and some not so close, that I might visit someday.
There are all kinds out there and you may run into more bad ones on the internet because people forget it's real life too. You deal with a lot of alter egos.
well there is every kind. i mean some sells on ebay are mentionned to US but sometimes the sellers send their items to europe but just didn't enable the world wide shipping. in every case, when you do commerce you need to have a good relation with a costumer. i know they are not all professionnal but even in a relation with other people, there is no need to be mean. i don't try to cheat them.Quote:

There's really no reason to be rude. I sell on the bay and do list that i ship USA only. The reason for this is the cost of shipping and the time it takes the item to get to the buyer. I mean no harm to anyone. but if you take a razor that sells for 50 US dollars then add 25 to 35 dollars thats a little high and in some cases it takes 20 to 30 days for it to get there. Well you do see the problem.
im not one of the rude ones, but i feel their frustration sometimes. I always explicitly state that i only ship US. And every time i get 12 plus people asking for shipping rates to some obscure parts of the world. Then theres the occasional few international buyers that will win an auction without even contacting first. they think its a matter of "oh, ill just pay you more for shipping". The problem for me is 1) its a lot more work on the shipping end to send international(i.e. customs forms, more secure packaging, significantly higher prices, having to wait in line at the post office versus using the automated terminal) and 2) the return process, should it come up, is a nightmare. I realize that other countries should be able to buy goods from anywhere else, but if its stated that it isnt an option, that doesnt mean ask anyway. just my opinion...

That said, the rudest person I ever dealt with on e-bay was from Greece! That does not mean all Greeks are rude..
I think that the issue of where an item ships to is not 100% clear. There have been many times that I have contacted buyers because it was not clear. Many times the ad simply says may not ship to Canada. If that is present in the information area beside the pictures I often ask. It amazes me how many times I have gotten very polite answers, of no, compared to the very rude answers of no. I do not see the value in being rude to strangers. If sellers come across as rude I often just move on. There are many many sellers and I would just as soon give my money to people who are polite.
As Ukrainian citizen I often had problems when seller even didn't answer to question about international shipping.
Lucky to me I found company which deliver goods from US.
It's like big warehouse where every client receive personal ID. So usually I win some lot and ask it to send to NJ to the company X, my name as recipient and my client ID.
After that I on my own fill up custom form and declare value (which sometimes I can write lower , to avoid import taxes).
One more preference is price, that company collect parcels and sell them together or by sea (4 weeks) or by air (2 weeks). Thats why shipping prices are really low, for 10 lbs box by sea something like 25$.
And seller have no additional problems.
Maybe you can find similar services.
Maybe it sounds unbelievable, but there is often situation when you just can't find some goods in your country or prices too overstated.
For example just last month I bought battery from Italy for 140€, paid 55€ more for shipping! And it was still cheaper than poor quality local analogs.
in fact, i don't buy from a rude seller. after their replies and you have reason about shipping costs, i had few business with some sellers who asked exceeded shipping price because they don't know (as in US, shipping costs depends of every state, they think same for other countries) but they just need to go on UPS site to find the exact price, well after these business, the sellers refunded me the the rest of delivery price.Quote:

by canadian sellers, i had good returns, they are kind and they answer gently.

i think 55€ because the seller afraid to lose money and they insure the stuff. in many case, for an auction it reduce your bidding montant because you have to calculate the shipping price with insurance. if you buy something as a pc, phone about 300€ or more, i would understand the insurance is needed but when you buy a razor or something else for less than that price, the tracking number is enough, the item can be found by the number and as it's not an electronic piece, no worry if the item is broke (it won't, just need to make a good package).Quote:

That's not how Ebay works. If I ship a package and it doesn't get there, you (the buyer) gets a full refund. But I (the seller) lose both the cost of shipping as well as the lost item. Unless I purchase insurance. That is the only way to protect ourselves. The only other way is to only ship using a signed for delivery option. (more money too)Quote:

No honestly. With the exception of a few brands and marks Europe has the better deals. And no Tax between any of the EU member states.
That opens up the greatest razor centres in the world. Solingen Germany, and Sheffield England, and France.
Ebay UK is dirt cheap for wedges and Sheffields. You can pick wedged and near wedges up for nothing from good makers like Joseph Rodgers, Joseph Elliot ect for very cheap most of the time.
Ebay FR for Le grelot, Theirs and a whole host of strange french designs.
Ebay DE for everything else.
Honestly going to the USA to buy a razor is crazy when we have it so good over here.
They shouldn't be rude to you for asking... I'm guessing the people who are got dinged on a bad deal at some point and is overcompensating.

i don't agree. solingen razors are not favourite blades in my opinion. they are ok but not best. french razors, on ebay there is rarely good ones. for UK, it's really expensive when you convert the pound to euro. otherwise, i like sheffield razors, biritish productions, and those are not bad exported to US in their time so...Quote:

the problem about shipping which you don't know, the defference signed package delivery and the insurance to get pay back. in a case when the seller is payed by paypal (for most of the case) if the package is received by signature, the tracking number will show it received by the buyer. so any wrong reclamation will be cancelled by paypal.
but here the thing, US sellers afraid too much to lose money, they want absolutely to insure their package which add a high price to shipping costs. when we talk about paypal, they need to see if package is delivered, if yes they won't take back your payement and DON'T refund the buyer. in this case no need to insurance (if we don't talk about electonic pieces because there is a possiblity that they are broken but this is not the case for razors).
If I see a razor I like and it says US only I always send a message to the seller explaining why I want the razor and point to the fact that I've bought over 100 razors from the US and never had a problem. I always ask for it to be sent economy to keep the price down and tell the seller that they can use the message I have sent them as proof to show eBay that I release them from any responsibility once the razor has been mailed. I've only ever had one seller (politely) refuse me. All the rest have been more than helpful and I've never had a razor not show up
I have received packages from the US and some needed no signature and some did need a signature to be received by me. It depends on how the package was sent from the US via USPS. Normally you would pay extra to send a package with tracking from the US over sending the same package without tracking via USPS. The cost difference is not small.Quote:

Normally I do not bother even asking if the seller will only ship CONUS. There are plenty of other razors and sellers who will ship outside the US. I also will not buy from a seller who using the global shipping system provided by EBay because that dramatically increases the cost over even registered mail sent via USPS.

by USPS i'm not actually sure. you may be right. when i bought something frw time, the sellers send me without ebay int. shipping but they posted it themself. actually the shipping costs were fair and i received the item after signed. i think i payed about $20 which was the most expensive one, but i had a refund from seller after he/she sent the item about $9. i agree when you pass by ebay shipping option the shipping costs increase too much. when the seller send from post office, you have a faire shipping price. for the insurance, as i said i had never any problem with receiving items and i believe there is some buyers which can give false claims to be refunded but they can be identified by their feedback on ebay and as i know if the tracking statut is delivered, they won't be refunded.Quote:

I think the biggest problem with sellers not wanting to ship outside the CONUS via USPS is that it requires that they go to the post office in person, stand in line and then fill out a customs declaration form for the package before paying for it. It can be very time consuming depending on how far away the post office is and how lengthy the line ups are. I believe a lot of private sellers are just not willing to go to the trouble of doing that.Quote:

I love old French blades and often find myself asking French sellers if they'll ship to the US. One has been rude, some don't answer and the rest have been very nice. You've got some really good deals over there but I've let some go due to shipping costs. When I sell on eBay my ads say US only, but I always Work with overseas buyers that contact me.
