I'm also trying to come up with trying to use this with a set number of strokes depending on the condition and style of razor. Nothing consistent yet. Paul says he just sharpens till they're done.

So Lynn would you say you advocate this system?

I only ask because I'm rubbish with a hone (though getting better) and this seems like it could take a lot of the requisite skill (the skill I'm lacking) out of the equation.

If you could review it for us it would be appreciated.

I like the idea, I think I'd rather have a firmer base for under the paper than suede though. But thats my opinion and needs to be tested. Looking at the way it is made I think the price is fair. I'll keep working with my glass bed hones and see if I can work something like a honing guide for this type of thing too.

For the record, I used those micro abrasives to hone my first straight.... it worked just fine but later when trying to improve on that edge I managed to get a serious wire edge but we'll chalk that up to operator error. Not long after that incident I switched to a Norton. Shortly after getting the Norton, I gave Howard a call and now the Norton sits unused most of the time, my Blue and Yellow hones seem to be all I need when combined with a CrO pasted paddle strop I made as long as I'm not working on ebay specials.

I think you're right about the source. I had a transaction with Paul for another item and we started talking about his system. I told him I'd be interested if I could get custom micron sheets but he couldn't provide that. The micron sheets on that site are the same Paul offers.

I just met with Paul on the weekend (living only an hour from him) we have been trying to get together for a long time. Paul is not a member of the forums but is a great individual. Gave me a tour of his shop and he has some awsome stuff and some amazing razors.

I have not used a regular hone or anything but he used this system to make my razor shave ready and I tell you it was VERY sharp. and it was not before he took it to this system.

the strips are indeed just clamped to the block and they do not seem to shift or bunch up at all when being used.

Thanks to paul and his "Double Ducking" hone system I was able to have my first straight razor shave and I look forward to many more with out having to send my razors away to be honed by someone else.

I've dealt with Paul and he's a stand-up guy. For $45 shipped, I'm going to try his hone system. I'm always looking for new toys.

I am thinking about this as well. Let us know how it works out for you.

Will do. I bought a cheap straight from wojtec so as soon as the hone gets here, I'll try it out. I'm hoping it's as good as advertised.

I've used this system to hone a Double Arrow and to remove chips from a Friodur. It worked without fail. I'd have to say I approve the system except for a few legitimate reservations. Once I have time to take photos, I'll write a thorough review.
