The RAD has been out of control and I have been getting a lot of razors off of the bay and what have you. When I ship an item I use rubber bands around the paper towel or bubble wrap to secure the item. Many sellers use tape and it is a PITA to get it off. :cry: Some in layers upon layers to the point that there is more danger to the item in unpacking it then in the journey it made to reach me. I feel better now, end of rant. :o
yes, I think that excessive taping is just cruel. I usually use one 3-5cm piece of tape. Bill Ellis has a nice directions on how to pack a razor. I have 2 datapoints that he follows them and they work nicely :)
I hate that! It took me like ten min to get one out! it was also wrapped on a ziplock bag then taped again then stuffed in cardboard then an envelope!

I would rather have to cut through layers of tape and bubble wrap and know the item is very safe inside rather than get an item wrapped in two papper towels and a a rubber band and have the razor come out and have chipped edges.
I agree. OTOH, an razor wrapped in bubble wrap and secured with a few quality rubber bands and then shipped in a box....... not a padded envelope (another pet peeve) is going to arrive safely to it's destination. I have made many sales on ebay of various items and have yet to have any loss or damage.Quote:

This past week despite my request I received two razors from separate individuals in a padded envelope. :mad: One fo the two was wrapped in tape and a paper towel. If that wasn't bad enough both of these sellers did not mail the items for a full week after receiving immediate payment. They both charged significantly more for shipping then they paid. One charged $8.00 and the shipping cost him $1.97. After May 19 a seller will not be able to leave a anything but positive feedback for a buyer. I am waiting until then to post feedback. Not necessarily a negative as I haven't decided yet.
Wow thats a good change in my oppinion on the feedback bit. I have not heard anything about it, but then again I haven't been looking anywhere it would be posted.
One thing that as far as I understand is normal, but I still don't like. Is how sellers apparently don't leave feedback eventhough they get their money and have sent the item.
I have yet to leave feedback on any seller that don't leave it for me once he sent the package.
Coincedently I only have 1 feedback ;)

There will always be people who try to take advantage of others, be it sellers, buyers or people outside internet auction houses. But if this change is true then it would appear that the bay is putting a bit of "buyer protection" in place. Besides we're talking about pet peeves and as I said I know its fairly common - I just don't think its a honest way to do things so I don't like it.
Yeah, I've changed my mind on this one recently. I used to think that sellers should give feedback upon receipt of payment, but when you think about it the transaction really isn't complete for either participant (for reasons such as BigSpendur gives) until after the buyer receives the goods and has proclaimed themselves satisfied (usually by posting positive feedback). I've never been an ebay seller, but I'm pretty sure that if I ever do sell anything I'd wait until I knew the buyer had satisfied themselves as to the quality of the goods received and given feedback stating that.Quote:

I am mostly a buyer unfortunately :shrug: but I do a bit of selling from time to time. I agree with thebigspendur on leaving feedback after the buyer has left it for me. This is truly a complete transaction. I leave the seller a positive as soon as I receive the item and I am satisfied with it. Another pet peeve is that I have left 1,312 feedbacks and only received 1,232. I find it annoying that people don't reciprocate.
my personal ebay pet peve is "Snipers"
I bid on something for a week, at a reasonable price and in the last 20 seconds someone comes and bids 5 cents higher than me.

Chady, I am an Ebay seller & when I post an item I send the buyer an email giving an estimated delivery date for the parcels arrival ~ I also ask if they can send an email once they do receive the item.Quote:

The reason I don't leave it when I post is: the item could get lost & it is my responsibility to try & make a Postal claim, to me the sale isn't complete until the buyer has the goods.
I also include any change if I over quote on postage.
I have received 798 feedback but I have left 869 for my buyers.

Seems like some solid changes that makes it safer for all. I also like the somewhat recent change to bidder names being hidden, so as to limit price fixing through external sources.Quote:

Most snipers are likely bidding a good deal more than 5 cents higher than you. The only time I don't snipe is when I really shouldn't be buying an item, and in the back of my mind am hoping that someone outbids me. Sniping is effective and fun - you should try it. :)Quote:

No way I can sneak a razor through under 20mm. Parcels are weight & I just make a box that will keep an item safe & under weight.
Smallest Oz parcel is up to 250g.
I'd never use a padded envelope as imagine if another parcel that weighed 10 or 15kg was dropped on a poor razor in an envelope.
Insurance of items posted in Australia but heading overseas are ONLY covered for loss NOT breakages.
Must admit I'm guilty of plenty of tape on the outside of the box (not contents) Tape is getting crappier and unless it is "tape over tape" it peels off too easily.
Don't waste time trying to undo sticky tape ~ Arm yourself with a pocket knife and slit along any seams.
