I would rather have to cut through layers of tape and bubble wrap and know the item is very safe inside rather than get an item wrapped in two papper towels and a a rubber band and have the razor come out and have chipped edges.

I agree. OTOH, an razor wrapped in bubble wrap and secured with a few quality rubber bands and then shipped in a box....... not a padded envelope (another pet peeve) is going to arrive safely to it's destination. I have made many sales on ebay of various items and have yet to have any loss or damage.

Thanked: 3795I bought a lot of 6 razors that were just taped together into a massive blob. I swear it was the equivalent of buying a car with pennies. The tape was taped right onto the razors and it took me well over AN HOUR to extricate the razors from the blob with a scalpel. That did not include the time taken to remove the residue from the razors. I was PO'd enough to be tempted to leave negative feedback but I decided to leave none. Seriously, I couldn't tell if the taping was the product of some perceived offense or just incredible stupidity.

Whenever I buy a razor off of ebay I always contact the seller and ask that they send it in a box and not a padded envelope. This past week despite my request I received two razors from separate individuals in a padded envelope. One fo the two was wrapped in tape and a paper towel. If that wasn't bad enough both of these sellers did not mail the items for a full week after receiving immediate payment. They both charged significantly more for shipping then they paid. One charged $8.00 and the shipping cost him $1.97. After May 19 a seller will not be able to leave a anything but positive feedback for a buyer. I am waiting until then to post feedback. Not necessarily a negative as I haven't decided yet.

Wow thats a good change in my oppinion on the feedback bit. I have not heard anything about it, but then again I haven't been looking anywhere it would be posted.
One thing that as far as I understand is normal, but I still don't like. Is how sellers apparently don't leave feedback eventhough they get their money and have sent the item.
I have yet to leave feedback on any seller that don't leave it for me once he sent the package.
Coincedently I only have 1 feedback

Well as a sometimes seller I can tell you there are people out there who will use the system to take advantage of you. if you leave good feedback for the buyer and then he gets the item and decides he paid too much and wants a partial refund or doesn't like it and wants you to pay for all shipping and refund his price before you receive the mdse back and uses neg feedback as a threat to you there is nothing you can do. That's why people wait until the transaction is complete. Sometimes things are not as simple as they appear.

Yeah, unfortunately I have been told that they won't leave feedback for me even when they know I have the item in hand. Luckily the new system will correct this if it goes through. So if its a case of either the seller ransoming me or vice versa. I guess I prefer that I have the option as at least I know that I'm a honest guy. I put these people in the same box as those who deliberately try to make an extra buck on shipping, it just seems petty to me.
There will always be people who try to take advantage of others, be it sellers, buyers or people outside internet auction houses. But if this change is true then it would appear that the bay is putting a bit of "buyer protection" in place. Besides we're talking about pet peeves and as I said I know its fairly common - I just don't think its a honest way to do things so I don't like it.Last edited by Chady; 05-12-2008 at 02:43 AM.

Thanked: 1587Yeah, I've changed my mind on this one recently. I used to think that sellers should give feedback upon receipt of payment, but when you think about it the transaction really isn't complete for either participant (for reasons such as BigSpendur gives) until after the buyer receives the goods and has proclaimed themselves satisfied (usually by posting positive feedback). I've never been an ebay seller, but I'm pretty sure that if I ever do sell anything I'd wait until I knew the buyer had satisfied themselves as to the quality of the goods received and given feedback stating that.

Thanked: 2Chady, I am an Ebay seller & when I post an item I send the buyer an email giving an estimated delivery date for the parcels arrival ~ I also ask if they can send an email once they do receive the item.
I leave feedback once I know they have the item (if they don't email I usually leave feedback after a month)
The reason I don't leave it when I post is: the item could get lost & it is my responsibility to try & make a Postal claim, to me the sale isn't complete until the buyer has the goods.
I also include any change if I over quote on postage.
I have received 798 feedback but I have left 869 for my buyers.
It's not all one way traffic.

This is the method I think few and at least I have no problem with. My problem is solely with anyone who wants to exhaust my feedback option before they leave theirs even though he he knows that I have the item through a pm, and its as explained in his auction. I've only won 3 thus far, 1 seller sent me feedback instantly as he sent the package. If I recall the guy had at least 1k feedbacks and a 99.something, probably 9+ rating I believe too. He was a really nice guy and linguistically well spoken.
