Well as a sometimes seller I can tell you there are people out there who will use the system to take advantage of you. if you leave good feedback for the buyer and then he gets the item and decides he paid too much and wants a partial refund or doesn't like it and wants you to pay for all shipping and refund his price before you receive the mdse back and uses neg feedback as a threat to you there is nothing you can do. That's why people wait until the transaction is complete. Sometimes things are not as simple as they appear.

Yeah, unfortunately I have been told that they won't leave feedback for me even when they know I have the item in hand. Luckily the new system will correct this if it goes through. So if its a case of either the seller ransoming me or vice versa. I guess I prefer that I have the option as at least I know that I'm a honest guy. I put these people in the same box as those who deliberately try to make an extra buck on shipping, it just seems petty to me.
There will always be people who try to take advantage of others, be it sellers, buyers or people outside internet auction houses. But if this change is true then it would appear that the bay is putting a bit of "buyer protection" in place. Besides we're talking about pet peeves and as I said I know its fairly common - I just don't think its a honest way to do things so I don't like it.Last edited by Chady; 05-12-2008 at 02:43 AM.

Thanked: 1587Yeah, I've changed my mind on this one recently. I used to think that sellers should give feedback upon receipt of payment, but when you think about it the transaction really isn't complete for either participant (for reasons such as BigSpendur gives) until after the buyer receives the goods and has proclaimed themselves satisfied (usually by posting positive feedback). I've never been an ebay seller, but I'm pretty sure that if I ever do sell anything I'd wait until I knew the buyer had satisfied themselves as to the quality of the goods received and given feedback stating that.

You can read about the feedback changes here. Scroll down page for the pertinent info.
I am mostly a buyer unfortunately but I do a bit of selling from time to time. I agree with thebigspendur on leaving feedback after the buyer has left it for me. This is truly a complete transaction. I leave the seller a positive as soon as I receive the item and I am satisfied with it. Another pet peeve is that I have left 1,312 feedbacks and only received 1,232. I find it annoying that people don't reciprocate.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

my personal ebay pet peve is "Snipers"
I bid on something for a week, at a reasonable price and in the last 20 seconds someone comes and bids 5 cents higher than me.

Thanked: 2Chady, I am an Ebay seller & when I post an item I send the buyer an email giving an estimated delivery date for the parcels arrival ~ I also ask if they can send an email once they do receive the item.
I leave feedback once I know they have the item (if they don't email I usually leave feedback after a month)
The reason I don't leave it when I post is: the item could get lost & it is my responsibility to try & make a Postal claim, to me the sale isn't complete until the buyer has the goods.
I also include any change if I over quote on postage.
I have received 798 feedback but I have left 869 for my buyers.
It's not all one way traffic.

This is the method I think few and at least I have no problem with. My problem is solely with anyone who wants to exhaust my feedback option before they leave theirs even though he he knows that I have the item through a pm, and its as explained in his auction. I've only won 3 thus far, 1 seller sent me feedback instantly as he sent the package. If I recall the guy had at least 1k feedbacks and a 99.something, probably 9+ rating I believe too. He was a really nice guy and linguistically well spoken.

Thanked: 2Gee Chady I hope you don't think I am going to disagree with everything you say BUT.....
I hate the hidden bidder names ~ what an opportunity it is for unscrupulous sellers to have "friends" bump up the price of an item.
As a seller, I can never leave another negative for a buyer (think I have left 2, the buyer that I really needed to neg ~ I accidently hit the green dot instead of the red ~ an absolute dog that I would love to meet in real life)
Ones that never responded to the sale I didn't even bother about ~ what do I know what could be happening in their lives ~ illness, death??? An Ebay sale is not the be all & end all. But I would like the option to give a bad buyer a red dot.
Sorry! .....momma
