7 day set, value?

Now I've got into this straight razor shaving business I've started going into 'antique' (junk) shops and asking if they have any razors.

Today, I found a place that did, it was a 7 day set with all the razors there. They were made by Wilkinson. Nothing fancy, black plastic scales (one of which was broken) and they'd need a bit of work before they were ready to shave with. The blades were quite narrow and had round points.

I just wonder how much a set like that is worth?

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, that's not enough information. The best thing would be pictures, if possible. How much was the store asking for this set? Do the razors have the days of the week engraved on the spine or are they just 7 identical razors in a box?

I've got one 2 razor set of Wilkinson's in a fitted case and one single piece with ivory scales. They are all great shavers and I believe them to be a highly regarded marque. I have been told by a friend that they are one of Lynn's favorite shavers. They certainly are one of mine.

IMO a 7 day set is worth more if it is an older set with natural scales, ivory or what have you. Condition is everything and whether the blades have hone wear, chips, rust enters into the equation. Condition of the scales is important as well and in a set the box.

If an individual razor is in great shape and worth north of fifty bucks what would seven matching razors in a fitted case be worth ? Good question.

unfortunately you can't make a picture of the blades as far you are not own them My best guess will be it is value is higher then you bought same razor in same condition separately.Sorry this is what i can say.hope this helps

As I was writing that, I was thinking, 'this is not enough information, I should have taken pictures.'

They did have the days of the week engraved on the spines.

The blades were not in bad condition, there was a bit of rusting on one or two of them but not close to the blades. They were not razor sharp, but they were not blunt either, and there were no nicks in any that I looked at.

They were asking £100 for them, so for arguments sake that's $150. Though I would try and get this down a little how ever much they're worth.

At $160.00 if the blades are in good shape & the scales I would say you can't go wrong. Even if you pieced the set out you would get your money out of it and keep 2 or 3. OTOH, if you kept them all it is nice for a straight razor shaver/collector to have a 7 day set. I have one and I don't even shave with it. They are mint Solingen razors by a favorite maker and I just admire them. I got them on the bay and the final bid was $335.00

One of the scales on one of them was broken.

I think I'll go back tomorrow and have a proper look at the blades.

I would probably sell the whole set as I don't have the skill to return them to their former glory and buy a shave ready one off here and a strop.

Nothing fancy but a nice set. If one or more of the scales are broken that would detract from the value IMO. Still it would be nice if you wanted to keep it and hone them up and shave with them.

$20/razor for a wilkinson is a steal, especially with such clean blades.
put it this way - if you buy the razors and relist them individually you should have no problem getting your money back, actually you'll probably get more.
they're one of the oldest sheffield makers, although these are no more than a 100 years old.
