Great deal on a Boker... I think

I've really been trying to stay away from our friendly neighborhood electronic whosiwhatsit auction site. However, I am weak and I could not help but have a quick browse. I found what looked to be a rather nice Boker with low bidding. Before I knew what I was doing, I placed a bid that I thought was too low to win. The next thing I knew, I won. So here, check it out. Am I missing something, or did I get a good deal?

Vintage/Antique-H. Boker & Co.-Germany-Straight Razor - eBay (item 150378117625 end time Oct-12-09 11:11:13 PDT)

Looks to have very little (if any) hone wear and, with a wee bit of elbow grease, should polish up nicely. Sigh... I've really gotta stay away from the bay!

The razor appears to be in good condition, plus you, also, got "Boker" scales, and that's a plus. You did very well! You'll find that Bokers are great shavers.

Yes, you did well, IMO.

Ah, but therein lies the rub... "appears to be in good condition." I won't know until I have it in my hands (and under my loupe). It's entirely possible that there is pitting near the edge. Ah well, you pays your money and you takes your chances. :D

Thanks, I've got a couple other Bokers, but they're kind of ratty looking; definitely seen better days. So, I have high hopes for this one.

I remember there was a guy a couple weeks ago at the Flea market trying to sell a Boker for 150.00 He said the Razor was worth 100.00 and the Box 50.00, mind you the blade was in great shape but it had been re-scaled which killed any true collector value. He was and I believe trying to sale a rescaled Boker at a price one might pay for an original untouched SR in perfect condition. I kinda laughed at him. I think it might have ****ed him off, I think I didn't care that it did.

I asked for appraisal info on the razor, he had none. So he was setting the price and hoping someone that had 1/2 a brain was going to buy it. He didn't like the fact I was asking questions and seemed to me he kept dodging them. He knew nothing about SR's. And if any one can show me Boker case with normal wear that was common that's worth 50.00 I would like to see it.:rofl2:

Flea market sellers can be all over the place on their pricing. I've seen sellers asking top dollar for utter crap and other sellers only wanting a few bucks for something really nice.

I remember one seller asking a fair amount for some celluloid fountain pens that he left sitting in the hot sun and were warped beyond repair. He probably bought them when they were in great shape and was trying to get his money back, but the pens were too far gone.

Yeah I had a fountain pen experience this past weekend. I am a avid user of fountain pens and also I am a calligrapher, so I know my pens. This jack a** had a common Parker fountain pen from the early to mid 90's trying to pass it off as vintage with a price tag to match. He wanted 30.00 for it ouch !!(Heck he wasn't even offering a free reach-a-round with purchase lol) He is another I pretty much called nuts.
