Thanked: 96Any idea on this stone?
Vintage razor hone sharpening stone, NOS "Royal Blue" - eBay (item 200417867230 end time Dec-20-09 16:32:02 PST)

Size, colour & country of origin suggest Thuringian.

More than that, it's a 'Royal Blue' hone, which is the exact same as a 'Hohenzollern'.
I very much hoped it would stay under the radar as the ad lacked the gilt words 'thuringian', 'escher', 'hohenzollern' etc, but obviously your post here shattered all that (for which, incidentally, my greedy collector's side hates you Ian ) so now it went for big bucks. Still, I'm quite sure whoever got it is a happy man.
Those who do not know what a Hohenzollern hone is, may look here or in one of the other numerous old threads.

I've got a pair of the Hohenzollerns but I hadn;'t heard of the Royal Blue. The amount it brought did surprise me. I wasn't in the running but I was a spectator.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Given that the Hohenzollern is every equal to fine Eschers and according to Kees, equal or better than a YG, that ending prices doesn't surprise me. I never should have sold mine, but I'm very glad that Kees ended up with it. I know that one of my hones I've set free is being used and cared for!
