Thanked: 0I won the monkey tailed Jo. Rodgers
Don't know if anyone else was bidding on this bad boy but I wanted to brag that I got it. I've lusted after this since it went up and probably spent more several hours just staring at it.
Know it'll be in a good home and get used rather than sit in a display case. Can't wait to feel the Sheffield Steel against my face.
Pictures later when I'm not on dial-up.
Consolations to other bidders also.
Weeeeee.
Robert.

I have a local antique shop that I actually saw one of these at. unfortunately the blade was TRASHED so I passed on it... it was only $12.50 though.. you have no idea how disappointed I was when I saw the honewear and massive frown

Congrats Robert, you snagged a very unusual razor at a good price.
Undream, somebody must've just loved that worn one in your pic! It takes a whole lot of shaves and honing sessions to wear one down that much. It must have been a good one originally, for them to hang with it to such an extreme.
Looking at this razor reminds me, I used to buy old vintage tube/valve amplifiers, I play guitar. I was always wary of old amps that looked like they emerged from a time capsule in perfect condition. With few exceptions, either they weren't original, or they were unused because they just didn't sound good. They were often cold and "stiff" sounding, not full, warm, and "bouncy" like the tone of a good road-dog amp with some wear and tear. Old capacitors rot from lack of use, which doesn't help either.
Maybe I'm just sentimental, but unless they're just shot like the one in your pic, I generally interpret some wear on a razor as a positive thing.
Sorry for off-topic musing, this has nothing to do with the thread...

I was watching that one too -- very nice purchase, Robert!! Great price too.
What are your plans for the scales, by the way? The crack looks kind of big, but some people are so picky about having original scales that they just repair and keep using the blade that way. Personally, I love nice, fresh, new scales on my razors, even if that means getting rid of something that is "original" but completely rotted or cracked. I mean, if you're actually using these razors, rather than putting them in a glass case to look at, then having scales that can be touched and used is important, right?
Anyway, seeing a really nice razor like this gets me to thinking about the scales that would go with it. Not to talk you into anything, but . . .

Congrats. Every now and then, there is an unusual one that just screams "Bid high, you have to have me!" - I'm glad that you got one that called to you.
