Default Picked up this badboy today - Hamburg Ring Razor

    Hey Everyone!!!!
I picked up this puppy on eBay for about 30AUD including shipping. Its my first eBay razor, and its going to be my first restore . It came in the mail today, as well as my 20x eye loupe (10x one is coming tomorrow ).

Inspecting the razor, there is very very minor pitting on the blade, not close to the edge though, so it should come out nicely . The shank has pitting on it, mainly near the pivot area, i got the black rust off which came off very quickly, the pitting is almost out as well, and the etching is still intact, there was no pitting or rust on the etching on the shank. The blade is in good condition, the etching has no rust on it, the blade has very light rust on it, but it will come out very nicely . Examining the blade edge with my 20x loupe, there are no nicks or chips, the edge should hone up very nicely

The only negative on this blade is some hone wear, but it should be fine because its not that bad

The scales are bone, and the blemishes are minor so im going to see if i can restore the scale, but im not sure how it will turn out.

Razor porn is on the way (just uploading them as im posting), this is what it looks like when its apart, i did a few sweeps on the shank with wet/dry paper, so it had a little more rust on it.

The ebay number is 110491033525, but the page only has one image. Ill post the ones i took when they have finished uploading

    EDIT:
Any insight on this razor is also appreciated

God we should use these pics as exactly what to look for when hunting a razor to restore... No bad hone wear, no funny edges, no deep bad pitting, just needs some TLC, and some pretty, some time on the hones, and you are going to have a 'fine as frogs hair' razor there.... Nice job !!!

Nice find. I love the slight smile. Here is a thread on the topic of "The Hamburg Ring" with more razor porn in it.

I agree. I've seen a lot of pictures of what not to get on ebay, but it would be nice to have something to compare to. With the quality of the pictures on ebay, it can be very difficult to tell a good buy from a bad one.
