My wife and I like to go around to thrift shops and the like. We stopped in this huge antique store today. I looked around for shaving gear and found a lot of razors, a couple of brushes and 1 stone.
There were only 2 razors that were worth mentioning. One was a "dubl duck" Case razor. I didn't get it out of the case to look at because the blade had some serious wear it it. If you could imagine looking at the blade horizontally it looked like a half moon was cut into it. The tag said $75 and the lady said the owner wasn't there to talk about. The other mentionable was a "Phoenix" and what makes it mentionable was that the back of the blade said MADE IN SOLINGEN. They were asking $29 for it. That blade had some age on it but it didn't look like it had any nicks or chips.
Those brushes I didn't care about.
The "stone" was very interesting as it was wood and looked very old. It looked like a large case with a block of wood wedged inside. I couldn't take the block out of the case so I don't know if there actually was a stone on the other side or if the wood had been used for honing. The block inside the case was very very smooth. They had it marked "vintage wet stone" but no price.
