Why the hell do people do that? I've made a lot of posts about early bidding, but there are always those who will do it...as soon as one person places a bid that's a little above the other one, there's a strong psychological push to get a bid in and have the item. I noticed with myself that if I bid early and decide I'm not willing to pay more, I will change my mind and be willing to pay more money for a razor if someone outbids me early. Could just be me, but I don't think so, since I see so much BS like this happening on eBay. You'll get one item that goes for 150 bucks because of all the early bidding (and other factors; early bidding's not the only reason), and the exact same thing goes for 80 bucks the next day...Quote:

They could be simply as pragmatic as having a max price in mind, willing to stick to it, and wanting to ensure that if that's the top bid by anyone that the first one on the board wins the razor, not the last.
I think in the long run one pays less on average for their ebay blades if they can wait around to bid exclusively in the final minute, but for rarities like this if I were to say $405 was my maximum I'd be glad to throw it out there immediately, assuming the blade would likely never fall below expectations given its extreme rarity.
Human nature being as it is, you're definitely right that most fall victim to emotion.

I am a sniper who comes in seconds before the end. I may place a token bid in the beginning so that I don't clutter my 'watched items' but I never bid my max until it is closing. I think the psychology of someone like this high bidder is that he will scare off any opposition. If that is his motivation he has me out of the running .... my reaper isn't quite as nice as that one but at $100.00 I am happy with it. :)
Interesting. I can't cast aspersions as I've made my share of fervent bids. These aren't really my cup of tea simply because I like a different style razor but I do like the guarantee that came with each of these reapers: "Unconditionally guaranteed forever . . . "
Now that's confidence in the quality of your product. You just don't see that on many things in this age.

Most razors on eBay are selling very high for a while now. I still surf it more for entertainment and habit than anything else. This one is entertaining. While I would not pay the going prices for most razors on eBay there are others that are selling high that I would buy before this one, like the Puma Gold 77 that is currently listed, which is more rare that this one claims to be.
Its crazy. I saw that one a few days ago and I cant believe how high the price has gone..!
I guess the guy really wants that razor..!
Thats going on my watch list, I'm interested to see where it closes.
