tis a mill stone, you can tell from the markings on the side of it. if it were a sharpejning stone it would be much smoother on the face, as the weight needs to be balanced perfectly or the wheel will throw its self off.

It's a bit of an odd looking millstone. They usually have regular fluted patterns ("harps") cut into them to grind and channel the flour to the edges of the stone - the markings on this one look very rough and irregular, almost like hew marks. Of course, they might well be hew marks - small stones were sometimes worked in pairs going round a central shaft on their edges, so the harps on the side wouldn't be necessary.
