German officer's razor?! Oh please.

This is a new low, even for the 'bay.

This guy is selling a completely ordinary Crown & Sword razor. They're decent blades, and I even have one myself. But he's calling it a "GERMAN OFFICER'S RAZOR" like it's some kind of military artifact?! And look at the price -- $200!!!

This is just complete and total fiction. Not that deception and distortion is rare on eBay, but to make up crap like this out of nothing but thin air still puts this guy in a special category.

Anyway, the auction is 250372545174.

I like the German Officer's Toothpick (aka ground down Henckels) even better. The good news is, people stupid enough to buy militaria do not really deserve any better.

and the razor is hitting the wedge at the bottom of the scales....

There is a rumor that this razor was once used by der Fuhrer to trim his mustache.

Some time ago there was a guy listing a razor that he claimed as Al Capone's for high bucks and a women who had what she claimed as Jesse James razor. Another with 'Nancy Hanks' stamped on the tang claimed it belonged to Abraham Lincoln's step mother. They don't say caveat emptor for nothing. ;)

There is what looks like a crack on the scale near the rear pin. If that is an "Officers razor" I would hate to see what the enlisted men had to shave with!

Just a small reminder that der Führer was neither an officer (lance corporal), nor German (Austrian).

how do you know this is a German officers razor?
there appears to be no markings to this on the razor, and if i were to purchase it i would like to know how I could tell its story and possibly trace the officer.

Hi,

this is a personal item and they were never marked with Waffen numbers etc. For this
particular razor its provenance attributes it as German officer's WW2 item. It came to us as
part of a lot of captured German gear and equipment. The regular soldier's razors are simpler
types and often safety razors, which makes this an officer's item with high degree of
certainty. There's no way to track the identity of its owner.

I like this guy, he throws in just enough pseudo-jargon to sound authentic, but without actually saying anything.

"Waffen numbers" = sounds like something Nazi officers would have

"provenance" = fancy auction word, but dude is using it incorrectly

"captured German gear" = pile of old crap someone found somewhere in Europe

"regular soldiers used safety razors" = more crap I just made up, and who knows, it could be true!

From what i can say about my 20+ years experience in armed forces is that if it was an officers razor it would for sure be bloody:roflmao
They should not be given anything that is sharp because next thing they need is band-aid.

you couldnt of said it better!
i had to teach a wepons refresher course to a bunch of 2nd LT
they kept picking up the M-4's like they had never seen one before. i was like put it down you gonna get to play with it in a little while....
needless to say about the band-aid thing one of them just had to put thier finger in where the bolt operates.... right after i said you shouldnt do that because it will hurt if the bolt gets released and slams your fingers

I asked a question of this guy and mentioned these were nothing special back then and my grandfather who came from a dirt poor family has passed one down, among others to me. I also asked him for proof so I could make an offer. When he responds I'll post it. It's a decent razor with a bit of work, but not worth his asking price, even if his claim were true.

I've got one of these Crown and Sword razors (a nice NOS one, in fact) that I purchased from Manfred in Germany. They are definitely decent Solingen razors -- equal to any of the other brands of that vintage. The insulting part is trying to pass them off as some kind of secret Nazi war memorabilia. What a crock, even by eBay standards!

Here is his response to my question, asking if he had any documentation to support his claim and justify his high asking price:

Hi,

the provenance of the item makes it most likely that it belonged to a Wehrmacht
officer rather then a regular soldier. It came to us as part of a lot of captured German
gear and there were many razors but most were common type safety razors that were
distributed among regular soldiers. There were few straight razors like this one of
different brands that were privately bought as was often the case with some officers
who even had their uniforms tailor made in order to take advantage of higher quality
materials and craftsmanship.
So, it's possible that it didn't belong to an officer but it's very unlikely. Thanks for

"most likely" is not provenance . The seller needs a name , and real proof of who the razor belonged to , and it's chain of progression into his/her hands .

And then after I responded, he sent me this:

I think I would make an offer . It looks like a very nice razor . But my offer would be the based on the amount I think the razor would be worth without the so called , "provenance" .

Oh crap ! I just looked at the pic of the razor again , and saw those scales . Don't buy it ! The scales aren't right , they're too short for the razor , and look like they've been butchered . $10 , for the blade , would be my offer .:gaah:

Officers like you describe were precisely what drove me to finish a degree while on active duty. For years I figured college was waaaay to hard for me and didn't bother. After all, my Dad made it sound like the toughest thing anyone had ever done. After 10-15 years working around a bunch of officers (aircrew types mostly). I figured if these buffoons can get through a college education how hard can it actually be? The rest as they say is history. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a dual major in English and Sociology in June of 2005 and retired in September of the same year after 25 years 2 months and 5 days on active duty. I wouldn't give back a second of it if I could. What a blast!
