Thats weird. It says Best Quality on the blade (which makes me think DOVO Best Quality), but it says Dubl Duck on the tang.

    Definately strange!

    Gentlemen:

That is strange, indeed. Perhaps a Dubl Duck expert can clarify this mystery. Unless . . . Nah, I scratch my head.

I don't see what the mystery is. Lots of DDs have warped or completely non-fuctional scales. (I think DDs have some of the worst scales out of any vintage razor you can name.) So someone took a nice DD blade out of the original scales and set it into a better-looking set of Bismarck scales. Same size razor, so it fits well.

And the etching on the face of the blade isn't so rare -- I've definitely seen it on lots of DDs and others. I think what you have to remember is that DD and Pearlduck and Bresduck were not razor manufacturers -- they were distributors, which means that they bought shaving gear from a bunch of different manufacturers and then put their brand name on it to resell it. It doesn't mean that the razors are not authentic; it's just that the brand name doesn't always mean that the razor was manufactured in the same place as others things with that brand name.

Yep we've seen that before. No mystery.

Whoever Pearlduck contracted with at that time to make a bunch of razors used that design. The scales are a different matter. probably a rescale.

I've never seen a bird like that either but I'm relatively new to the Str8 razor community (@ 4 yrs)

I don't think the scales are the strange thing. I suspect the OP thinks the blade etch is odd, combined with the DD on the tang. It really does make it look like a Dovo. It adds fuel to the rumours that Dovo took a turn making them.
