Legit stone?
Stumbled upon this 12k stone on u-pay. Looks off to me, but couldn't say for sure. Anybody know the seller? Familiar with these stones?
12000 grit natural whetstone for fine honing. +/- 2 lbs - eBay (item 220735938551 end time Mar-08-11 18:27:03 PST)
Thanks.

Thanked: 3795Every part of that description matches that for the "Chinese 12k" but the photo does not match that. That vendor has sold many of the other Chinese hones with photos depicting the normally appearing hone. I have no explanation for this change.

If you buy that one be prepared to take your time to lap it.

Thanked: 3795I have bought two Chinese hones from Woodcraft. They are from the Guangxi province. They are a very common stone. I have seen many pictures of others' hones. They have all been perfectly squarely cut with no jagged edges. The photo of this hone is completely different.
HERE is what the hones usually look like.Last edited by Utopian; 03-03-2011 at 12:36 AM.

Thanks for the link to the pick Ron. The combo of the low price and ratty pic is what made me post the question here.
