As the seller implies (okay, shouts), it's a piece of art (as in Art), rather than a mere razor. And I have to admit that I agree. Pretty darned amazing piece of work. There's some real history behind that blade. Who was the engraver (a master)? Who was the recipient (I'll bet there's a great story there too)!? A lot is going on in those 6-7 inches of straight edge razor. I couldn't guess its worth, but it's one knockout piece of Swedish--and razor--history.
I couldn't guess either. It is unlikely but if it does sell we'll get to see in 'completed items.' Talking about what things are worth ..... I don't know how many times I've watched Antiques Roadshow and seen stuff that I wouldn't have looked at twice in a garage sale go for mega bucks. :p
Agreed. And the seller isn't pitching this razor to guys like us. He's hoping to snare a museum, or an elite collector. Can you imagine having this razor in your collection? It would be the centerpiece, and anyone who handled it would be asked to wear white gloves!
Very few people would be allowed to touch it! My only problem is that I would want to shave with it! Ummm Lynn, mind if I show up with it for honing??? Hey that brings up a good question... Which I will post elsewhere... what is your most expensive/prized razor you honed and shaved with??
..for all of us to drool at :)

Now, I'm not apt to comment on the listing price, but that thing is really something.

Mod Edit: This was the start of a separate thread on the same topic so I merged them.
Really beautiful razor. But I don't see, why it's so expensive.
The handle isn't native (see pins). And possibly, was made separately
for Axel Augustson. I don't know who was Axel Augustson, maybe, it's the important factor.:)
So, it's rare, as all personalised razors. IMO.
There's another long thread about this razor already going here. Might make sense to poke around & see what's been said.
