Are these gold bricks or something?
-
apparently yes.... yes they are golden bricks.... or at least the seller thinks they are...
-
it looks like the BUYER thought they were too!
-
The explanation seems simple enough...someone sold something to someone else for a lot of money. Not like it has anything to do with us, though...
If you'd like speculation, I reckon one of those might be a cutler's green--a very very VERY rare stone with a bit of unobtanium in it.
-
Something seems a bit screwy, how/why does one guy raise his bid from 67.60 to 2180.00 in one shot for no apparent reason?!
-
That is exactly why those stones are precious. They radiate something which makes one bid at least 3k on the spot :jedi:
-
There is something fishy about those auctions. Rare stones or not, the bidding doesn't make sense.
-
i agree i dont think there is a logical reason to go from 65 to over 2,000 i think this guys buddie jacked up the bid to make it look like this stone was rare, i cant think of another reason why anyone would jump a bid so much.
-
To tell you the truth there are Japanese Stones that if put up for sale would cost so much these would seem like bargain basement steals.

The question in that auction is what led bidder "s***e" to make a last desperate bid for more than 2200 GBP for the stone?
It looks like bidder "e***n" had placed a couple of early bids, then got out bid, and decided to place a very high bid (2180 GBP), perhaps thinking that no one would bid that high.
He was wrong.
The thing to remember about eBay is that there is always someone out there with more money than you.

Ah the unobtanium...very precious indeed!

I would guess that two guys both decided on their absolute max, and entered it in. I'm sure both hoped no one else would have a max anywhere close, and we can see they were both wrong.
As to why they wanted those stones so much, only they could tell you.
-
e***n's bid of £20.12 got outbid and perhaps he meant to bid £21.80 which wasn't enough and accidently deleted the dot. s***e may have seen his snipe fail (-7s) and tried to enter a high amount quickly (-1s) thinking nobody would be crazy enough to bid more than £100 :D
Someone in chat once told me he did something similar but I can't recall the details.
The stones don't look special to me.
-
Maybe the one from the UK is a Devonshire oil stone.
I'm not sure what they look like, but I guess I can assume it's not one since the bidding didn't include souls.
-
If that is a Cutler's Green, then I have a few. I doubt it is. The blue one I have seen before.
Hopefully Neil Miller may advise, but I think we may see these relisted.
-
General consensus in the chat is that we should report this to the relevant authorities as suspicious behaviour. The best guess our intelligence department has made is that an Evil Ukrainian genius (who is very rich) is creating a weather machine, of which these two stones are a vital component.
Jimbo out.

Maksim showed a 'Genuine Blue Sharpening Stone' just like it. Might have been sold by Salmen, I have a similar little box with their logo.
-
As long as we are speculating... It's possible that the two individuals are engaging in illegal operations (drugs or money laundering)...
Hey Joe... I'll sell you this key of coke for 10k!
Ok... but I can't cary that much cash on the plane with me...
Hey Joe... I got these sharpening stones for 10 bucks at home depot and made them look old... How 'bout you give me $3,000 for them... We'll do that 3 times... That's 9K. You can send your old lady over to take care of the other grand...
It could happen!
-
Maybe I should sell my cutlers green stone, if they make that kind of money.
(Jeltz wonders off to find a stone he can call a cutlers green and put on ebay)

I'm not sure anyone would be able to identify one.

I can assure you, our crack squad at the CIA (Chat Intelligence Agency) pursued that avenue and found it didn't stand up to our high levels of scrutiny that we apply to possible hypotheses. I can reassure the good citizens of SRP that the Evil Genius Weather Machine scenario is a credible threat, and that these are in fact stones of mass discombobulation (SMD) associated with changing weather patterns experienced over Eastern Europe.
Jimbo out.

The question now is ...... will the seller get paid ?
-
On a (slightly) different topic - has anyone here dealt with this seller?
It seems to me that his hones jump in price with just seconds to go.
-
Look at the bids on his compleated auctions, same people over and over, you can tell by their feedback scores who they are,he has shills.
I get asked all the time to do that by some watch sellers I know on the bay, never would tho.

light the torches... hone the pitchforks........ we makin a mob........

Precisely! :D
That said I do have a stone which doesn't conform to the general description of a Charnley but has similarities to the description of a Cutlers Green, but as you say there is nobody who can ID one.

Yeah it could be a situation that 2 people missed the decimal point in their snipes :D

I understand that forest green with light blue dots is a description. The green is not far off "forest" and the dots are bluish grey rather than black or otherwise and the slurry it produces is khaki, here is a picture of the slurry wipes onto white paper but its closer to palmolive stick than it shows.

I don't understand why they wouldn't go for more. These are REAL rocks. They took millions of years to make! Who among us would do all that work if we only ended up with the smallest fraction of a cent for a whole year's work! Give Mother Nature a break, she deserves a couple of bucks for all she does.
(and if you believe that, I have a couple of rocks in my back yard that I want to sell!)
-
Here among others, is in Olivia's belief, a Cutler's Green. Scroll down and you will find an alleged example. Also a great place to check out other nice examples of natural rock. I say 'alleged' because I have not seen a definitive example, and Olivia's information conflicts with other literature that I have read.
-
Thanks for that Scipio never seen anything which has been stated as a Cutlers before but I agree that my reading on the subject doesn't exactly match that specimen.

They may not all be alike (just look at the variations in other British hones, Charnleys, Tams etc) and that may not even be a Cutler's Green.

Wow, just checked out all the posts on this thread, and looked at the links hoping to see what unobtainium looks like. Heaven help me, I might HAVE one! :dropjaw: When I bought a box of old jewelers stones, and sold off the Special Stone (before I knew what it was) I kept the pretty green stone, because it had a deep gouge in the back, and I didnt think anybody would want a damaged stone. Now I have to dig it out and lap it, just to see!

The CIA (Chat Investigation Agency) are well aware of your stone. In the interests of your own safety you should send it to me straight away. Your life may be in danger if you don't. Beware short Ukranian men with shaved cats.
Jimbo out.

I guess Ukranian men have good taste if they like shaved pussy (cats) ANd I would be happy to send the stone off to somebody who could give it a postive ID instead of my bumbling amaturish attempts at geology and honeamopathy
-
Magpie, just post some pictures of it at the Hones forum.
