I sold one for $750 a few years back. They are a scarce Gillette. For a sure enough collector it is a chunk of change but hey .... might be the only one he'll ever see. At one time I had all of the double ring Gillette DEs from 1903 or was it '04 .... anyway, I had 'em and once I had all of the variants, with boxes and all, it was like .... is that all there is ? So I sold them. I realized a while ago that I can't take any of this stuff with me when I finally go.

Y'know it shaved alright but I've read that they developed it first, with the adjustment ring at the bottom, and found that the propensity for soap/gunk to get into the mechanism, was more likely with the ring at the bottom. Not sure if there is anything to that. The balance was different than that of a 'normal' ring at the top fatboy.

I saw that and thought it odd but kind of cool - kind of like a watch that has a glass backing kind of cool. I like it. But sure, the balance would be different wouldn't it.

I wouldn't know about the gunking up either. All I know is I'll never know at that price lol.

    Default SRAD REAL BAD

I say the same thing about enjoying what we can while were here cuz we can't take any of it with us when we go, thats probably why(or because of my OCD) in the weeks before Mr-Razors auction and the weeks after, I ended up going $2650.00 deeper in debt on Two of these Bottom Dials, the first was a 9 Setting with a matching Bottom Dial case, the second Acquisition was a true Proto Type probably from 1956 - a Non Date Coded 5 setting Bottom Dial. I'd been collecting Straight Razors for a couple decades or more, which include wedge blade safties, and Auto Strops, but didn't get into Gillettes until 4 months prior. I got SRAD with the Adjustables; The Famous Fat Boy Top adjuster, the Toggle a Scarce but not near as the Bottom Dial but scarce enoughThe Executive(gold Fatboys), The New Aristocrat(A Gold SlimBoy),Then the Gillette 195 Adjustable Bottom Dials, I believe I am done..... Maybe.
I just gotta keep a note with them in the event of an untimely death: To Whom It May Concern (wife and kids) "Don't Sell in Yardsale Call Antique RoadShow!!"

And here I felt guilty of dropping 900 bucks on two mint straight razors last week...WB Celebrated and a 7/8 Dorko.
