I'm about to toss a number of razors on the bay. Is there any rules against self promoting here on SRP?
That is touched on in the rules here: SRP rules of conduct - Straight Razor Place Wiki
EDIT: it isn't exactly black & white and involves a judgement call, so maybe you'd want to contact a mod directly first to be sure?
This is the pertinent part of the rules pertaining to the question ;
Linking occasionally to eBay sales is permitted but limited to the Auctions section. However links by members with inadequate forum participation are considered 'drive-by marketing' and will be removed.
IOW occasionally is 'once in awhile'. If it becomes a steady thing it is pushing the envelope. .
I sell razors on ebay several times a week, would never consider linking them on this site, bad form IMO.
I am not usually one to self promote my razors. I sell on the bay far less often than I buy, but this is sort of important, which is why I asked about it.
I will post a single mention when my auctions go up, and leave it at that.
I hope you wont think me too much "in poor taste" for doing it.
@ Magpie why not try and sell them here in the Classifieds?
I feel you are a great member here with a fine reputation. I see no reason why you could not link to your auctions here.
It seems the rules apply to passers-by and certainly not to you. You have done much to help others in this forum, Now, you are trying to help your Mom and, hopefully, find good homes for your razors. I would think fellow members would be proud to know they are for sale and to be able to bid on them.
JMHO,
Tom
Thanks Tom.
Its nice to hear nice things now and again. ;)
I tend to err on the side of caution, so I checked to be sure. I had 9 razors up, and only placed the single post, so I think I stayed inside the rules. I have put a few razors here in the classifieds, but it seems that people shopping on here either want dirt cheap, or beauty queens. And time is a factor. I couldnt wait to see if I had a sale or no, 7 days, sale happens. Even if I dont get as much as I hope, or in some instances, found I got more than I thought I would!
Under the currant situation with this particular member I agree 100 % Sharpton.
But, why not not post them here? and save 10% ebay fees and 3 % paypal toke.
For one fair price,or take a chance of losing on the bay, than again, sometimes the bay turns out to be a good thing for sellers.
If this is okay with SRP,I may start doing the same.JMO
Yes! understandably a good way to turn razors into cash!
Yes, fair is fair, but because Magpie is selling off and not just selling, I see it different. I sorta think we self-regulate this. It seems to work. We do have the Classifieds, no doubt, but it takes time to sell there. If cash is to be raised quickly, that means razors are to be sold and shared. Ebay, or Classifieds!
Sort of a moral decision for us. I think this is why the rules are vague?
Best to All,
Tom
Under the dire circumstances the OP is under,Agree 100%
I dont like the word "Dire" its just a temporary setback. In a few months, all will be well again, the sun will shine, and I will sip Pina Coladas while honing Livi razors on Jnats on the beaches of Bermuda. :nj
LOL, I had the same question and figured I would search this forum to see if anyone did it first. I dont want to be someone who uses SRP to promote my stuff on Ebay but its kinda good to let people who are interested in looking. I also understand why there is a rule about this... if there wasn't there would be a huge amount of links to any and every Ebay post for a straight. Thanks for asking Magpie.
Just my two cents and YMMV but I think it is bad form for any member here to solicit our membership with their ebay offerings.
