Anyone got both the shapes of razors pictured on his ebay site? I only have the sfk badged french point/angled toe with another two on the way (thanks wojtec) but some of the pictures show round point razors that don't seem to have the sfk stamp.
Anyone noticed any difference? I noticed a new strop on the ebay page as well (I may have to buy one just to see it as well :) ).
Here's a quick translation of the Polish paper included with the razor, basically its just a short instruction on how to take care of your straight edge razor.
"A few practical words to the buyer of the straight edge razor for shaving. Razors made in our company are marked by the following traits:
The are guaranteed by the state for the highest quality and use. Razors made by our company use the highest quality steel with the latest technological innovations. Each batch is under the highest quality control and therefore there shouldn't be a bad razor on the market. The buyer will be satisfied with the product and the use of the razor.
Before each use of the razor, it is necessary to sharpen the razor on a leather belt. Sharpening of the razor should be done in the following manner:
The razor is placed flat on the leather belt and is pulled across the belt alternative sides, between 10-20 times. The razor is pulled along the leather belt with the back of the razor as the leading edge. The back of the razor should not be lifted from the belt because this will cause damage to the blade.
To keep the steel of the razor in the best usable condition, a bit of care is required. After shaving it is recommended to wash the razor to remove any shaving soap from the blade and to dry the razor with a soft cotton cloth. Caution must be taken not to touch the sharp edge of the razor.
After long uses it is recommended that the razor be sharpened using a sharpening stone."
There you go. Nothing too exciting or special. Just the standard paperwork they include with anything you buy these days.
I gave mine 20 laps on black arkensas ,10 on medium ceramic &20 on fine ceramic ,shaved about 12 times & just 6 strokes each side on white ceramic to get edge back to be able to pass hanging hair test before shaving .These areseriously great razors. Paul
"Caution must be taken not to touch the sharp edge of the razor. "
In other news, water has been determined to be wet.
LOL.
Thank you very much Fred for the effort in translating the instruction paper of these beautiful razor!
You're very kind!:tu
Ciao
Francesco
Fred - Thanks for the translation! My 2 Wapis did not have the instruction sheet nor the stamp on the tang but they shave great!
Everyone should try the Waps as they are an incredible value and fine shavers.
Ordered my 2 Wapi's on Sunday, received them Thursday. Both in great condition! One even had at the bottom of the coffin a little quality control note with a stamp on it! Nice, relatively heavy for their size, razors. I just love the very basic quality of them! Honed one easily in 20 minutes, will try it tomorrow.
Orderer mine Wednesday has taken 6 days in arriving at Barcelona. Small comes in one box with instrucioes in Pole and a seal from control from quality. Everything in perfect state. Kees, That protocol you have followed to sharpen it?
Greetings to all
I have no protocol because I love simplicity. I tested it and found out it did cut a few of my arm hairs so I felt the initial bevel was there. I marked the bevel with a felt tip and took my Mueller Thuringer and started honing, testing every 20 to and froes on the hone. If at the sharp edge you find some ink after 20 laps it tells you you still got some way to go. If after another 20 to and froes the bit of ink at the sharp edge has gotten significantly smaller you know you can continue with the polishing hone, if not you need to create a bevel on a coarser hone. I did not need to with this Wapi.
I never use pyramids, if I feel the razor is overhoned I strop it a couple of times with minimal pressure and the spine lifted a few millimeters off the leather or linen. Stropping with the spine off the strop is very controversial on SRP but it works for me every time I have an overhoned edge.
Just to confirm, some of the razors have no markings at all, correct? The one I just got has no marking anywhere along the tang or scales.
That's what I've heard. I've only got the ones with SMF stamped on the shank so I can't say for sure.
Just to add my two cents - I ordered four SMF stamped wapis on July 5 and they arrived, very well packaged, on July 17th. Pretty good considering they came to Australia from Poland. They all had a decent bevel already established and I was able to hone all four in less than an hour. I've used three of them so far, and they all shave great! Highly recommended!
Thanks Woj :tu
Well... I just threw down and ordered 3 more! Gawd what a deal! I can satisfy my RAD on the cheap and get some exceptional shaving razors to boot! That brings my total to 5. Now to start thinking about some nice scales... :hmmm:
Great job Woj!:bow
Thanks!
Ron
from now I am selling razors with the SFK triangle
Woj, do these razors have jimps as well? I'd love to get a couple more with the triangle and jimps.
The ones I just received have jimps on the underside of the blade, but are smooth all the way across the top
they have "jimps" ,unmarked wapienica 9/16 also
3 oryginal box left
whats a jimp?
Some guy I keep in the basement wearing leath...
Oh wait, yeah, ummm, jimps are the serrations (sometimes called ribbing) seen on the shank to aid grip. They can be present on the top and bottom, or just the bottom.
Apparently the standard is for 40 ribs per inch. Jimps are sometimes referred to as 'flutting'.
ah very nice, my wapis do have the ribs on below the tang. I am calling em ribs, dammit!:w
"Whose motorcycle?"
"It's a chopper, baby"
"Whose chopper is it?"
"It's Zed's"
"Who is Zed?"
"Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead."
Jimp = Gimp = Character in "Pulp Fiction"
Ahhhh! Now that you mention it... I do recall something along that line in the movie.
Thanks! Now I can rest.
I'm looking to start down the road to str8's by using a Dovo Shavette (from grunion). However, I can not believe the price of these Wapienica razors, as well as the rave reviews they are receiving. I am soooooooooo tempted to purchase a few, so that I have them for later. Does that sound obsurd to anyone??? How many str8's does one need to start?
Also, as I will be trying to outfit my rig on the cheap, how do the seller's water stones compare. I've been pricing the Norton 4k/8k stones, but these ones are much less expensive. Do they work well on the Wapienica's???
While were on it... what about the strop that's listed for sale? Speaking of strops... do they need pastes or are they usable right "out of the box"?
I want good, quality gear... not crap that I will need to upgrade from in a few months/years.
Sorry for all the questions, but it's hard to justify this kind of purchase to SWMBO the first time around. I'd hate to have to try justifying upgrading in the near future.
Thanks,
- Ken -
That's not absurd at all.
One. How many you want is a different story.Quote:

If you're short on $ in the beginning I'd advise not getting any stones. Get a 4 sided pasted paddle from Tony Miller, pasted on two sides with 1.0 and 0.5. Either buy a shave ready razor from someone here or have one honed by one of the honemeisters. That way you know what a properly honed razor is.Quote:

That's how I started. I had a straight that I'd bought at an estate sale years ago. I had Lynn hone it so I had a benchmark.
I use that strop as my travel strop. It's fine as is. You only need a pasted strop when your razor starts to lose its edge. They are NOT for everyday use.Quote:

Need/want. You'll find out. We all did. ;)Quote:

You sound very familiar. Most of us here have a similar story. Hang in there. Before too long you'll be writing this post to another "new" guy...Quote:

Hehehe, I knew I liked you. That's one of my favorite movies:bow
What's more chickensh** than f****** with a man's automobile? I mean, don't f*** with another man's vehicle.
You don't do it.
It's just against the rules.
One of my favorite lines in the whole movie.
Hey GoTee, definitely go with one of Tony's strops. Don't worry about stones until you're really crazy about it, and that strop will get you and your razor really far!
Thanks for the prompt reply, Jonedangerousli. I'll definitely check out the 4-sided pasted strops from Tony. Look's like I'm goin' shoppin'!!!! RAD is back...

When I first read this I was a little worried about Ken and what exactly he was going to check out after reading the immediately preciding messages but once I'd read further I saw it was only a 4 sided strop. Phew! :)
OK... I just ordered 3 Wapienica's. I can hardly wait to receive them. Now I just have to save up for a Tony Miller strop and a Norton 4k/8k hone. Then I'll just have to learn how to use everything. :gth Now this is an adventure... :D :D :D

Goteeguy, Jonedangerousli is absolutely right. Although the razors do not take much work to hone they do not come shave ready out of the box. If you want I will hone one or all three of your razors free of charge to get you started as long as you pay shipping both ways. Then you will only need a strop to maintain the edges for a while and a 4 sided pasted strop to do touch ups. If you are interested send me a pm. Otherwise good luck on the long journey that awaits you.
Thanks for the offer, heavydutysg135. Once I receive the razors, I may take you up on that.Quote:

I will highly recommend you to do that, heavyduty has a great knowledge honing, he has changed the way i see a bevel, he personally tought me how to hone and now i can achieve better shaves than ever.
It will help you because you could use as reference and know how sharp your blades should get.
Definetly tale advantage of his kindness.
Be well.
