Hone help with new dorko..

I just received my new dorko from shavingshop.com thought it was sent shave ready tugged worse then my theirs-issard.. So I decided it was probably "just about there" so I did a 1/8 on the norton then 50 laps on the leather strop... test shaved still tugged.. then I went and did a 5/5 then 3/5 and still tugged.. just did a nail test and doesnt even really mark my nail.. I shaved part of my neck though and tugged the hairs off a bit though.. tried shaving my arm and took some off but left some... Where do you think I should go from here? Thanks!

I've heard these razors are very hard steel. If that's the case, then you might want to add a little pressure on the hone. On the Norton Combo I'd suggest.

1/3 HTT and see. Maybe a few 1/3 laps after that to try and improve it.
Just a suggestion. I've been having a similar problem with my new Filarmonica and haven't quite figured it out yet.

I have a Dorko and in my experience they are exceptional shavers. The trick is getting them to their highest potential. I usually use the coticule and just keep at it until it comes around. I find it could take 100 or more strokes initially but thats without any pressure at all on the blade. This is one of those razors that just needs more attention but it eventually comes around. I don't like to go down in grit unless I really have to. If your using the 8K I would not go to the 4K at all unless the edge looks kind of rough.

By the way you will find that with Dorko's you will always know when its time to rehone because though it will continue to give very close shaves the comfort factor will deteriorate drastically.

Im gonna wait to lap my hone first then I will go back to the 8k side and just do laps of 5 till it seems right... thanks

I don't think my own Dorko is at its best, despite Coticule and chromium oxide - I just need to keep at it longer... It was almost shave ready NOS but still took quite some time to get it where it is today (compared to other razors)

Dorko's are without a doubt my favorite razor. I purchased 3 NOS and all I had to do to get them shaving like a dreram was some passes on Tony's paddle strop .5 and then .25 they are beautiful shavers
