Newbie Chat???

I heard something about there being a chat for Newbies on Tuesday nights....is this correct? I thought there was only one on Sundays for all members.

Do I just come on, log in, and click on "FlashChat"?

You probably heard me commenting on it in my obsession post. I saw it on the documention page under the library link from the home page. It said Sunday and Tuesday night new user chat logs. I assumed there was still a chat for new users on Tuesday nights, though that was the only place I saw it advertised. Lynn seems to only have posted about the Sunday night one here in the forum, so I don't know if it actually exists now or not.

A newbie chat on Tuesday was started about a year ago but the participation was low and so the organizers lost interest. There was also talk recently of organizing a chat that would occur at a time more convenient to members in Europe, etc... but I don't know if anyone has actually organized an alternate chat as of yet.

BTW, the chat room is open 24/7 so feel free to organize something whenever you want. Ask if yo need help with something.

To use the chat, yes, you just login, come to the forum and click flashchat. (You can also click on chat on the main site, but you have to have visited the forum first to be logged into chat.)

Ahhh... the chat logs... they were discontinued when we switched to the flashchat software we're now using... it doesn't have the ability to export the logs. Hmmm... I thought I had deleted the old logs and the category... guess not. I'll take care of that asap. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. I am a web designer/developer by trade, so I know how much work it takes to run a site of this size. It is tricky keeping everything updated and running smoothly.

Nope. Same issue. I'm beginning to think that members should just go to the chat room during peak use times and post an Announcement when they are there and how long they intend to stay. The chat function is a little under used. If you're getting instant PMs from your posts and engaging in reply-counter replies in the Forums, everyone would do well to consider inviting people to the chat room for an impromptu real time interaction.

yes but...

I wholly support the chat, so don't take this the wrong way, please. Chat is great for conversation and the interactivity of it make for good brainstorming and efficient problem solving. And PM's are great for private conversation. But the information is restricted to those involved at the time....

What's great about the forum is that it creates a legacy of information... a public library of sorts, a place where others can share in learning at their leisure, can search for long past topics, can see pictures attached many moons ago, etc. That's why we encourage newbies who are shy/afraid to ask what they believe will be embarrassing questions to post them anyway... because if one newbie has the question, likely many do.

We need to make sure we feed the information into both venues somehow.

I tried to host the newbie night chats but participation was low and the chat was just a lot of BS stuff, not really shaving related.

If anyone is ever interested in a chat session with me to get past a frustration point simply PM me and we'll work out the details. Since I spend my days working as an instructional designer I take a little pride in my ability to convey our art to newbies. Many of us on here are way past the point where we want info and are still here only to pay back the support we've received in the past.
