Default A little snapshot of my rotation...and a new addition!

    Hey all,

I've had an amazing few months of straight shaving, and thought I'd share a quick snap of the collection I've built up since I entered the world of straights earlier in the year.

The road to competent use of straights has at times felt like a long one! Only now, after several months, do I feel that competence is present - and even after my first 'successful' straight shave, there was still dejection and discontent every now and again. Thankfully I am able to now say its a thing of the past, and I enjoy every shave!

I am perhaps fortunate that honing was a skill that seemed to come to me fairly swiftly - though my results may still be fluke more than skill - only time will tell!

So I thought I'd share a quick snap of my rotation, and also a new addition that I snapped up this weekend on the bay. Let me apologise for the quality of the picture - I recently lost my camera, so relying on my phone at the moment!

    Clockwise from top left...

Ralf Aust 6/8 square point (purchased new - from SRD!)
Dovo Bismarck Pearl 6/8 (purchased new)
C.Myers & Son 6/8 (ebay - 'New' in so much as it was covered in grease and had never been used, but still of vintage manufacture)
Crown & Sword ERN 1166 6/8 (ebay - I cleaned the blade up with micromesh emery, honed it and now its an amazing shave)
H.Eicker & Sohne 66 PAX 6/8 square point with dear horn scales (ebay - Current favorite - I wish I could pinpoint a rough year of manufacture, as the blade condition is so good it literally looks brand new)
T.R.Cadman & Sons Bengall 6/8 (ebay - My first honing success - Had two very large chunks taken out of the blade, so is probably more a 5/8 now as I had to hone them out)
KROPP 6/8 (ebay - Another early honing success - This razor really is a very comfortable shaver - The blade is etched with 'Made expressly for R. Hill & Son, 16 Castle Street, Bristol - I Googled the name and address, and one of the returns is an old pre-WWII photo of R. Hill & Son's shop, so a nice bit of history with this razor)

And finally, my new purchase - a Wade & Butcher FBU 7/8. Cannot wait to receive this and start restoring it!

    Safe shaving everyone!

    Al.
