How I remember the grain.

Hello all, my name is Jason, and for the past 3 weeks I've been lurking on the boards, reading, almost every post! I'm completely fascinated, and of course, hooked for good! Anyways, just a little trick I thought up a few days ago to remember the direction my crazy a$$ beard grows in. I figure it may be helpful to other newbies in my situation. (crazy a$$ beard grain coupled with bad memory) After putting shaving cream on, I would FORGET THE GRAIN! So this is what I did.

I took my extendable shaving mirror (got it from IKEA when the old lady drug me there one night $4) and a sharpie pen, and drew little arrows on the mirror after carefully examining my face for 2 days of not shaving. 1st day was identifying the grain, and 2nd day was confirming what I drew was correct. I've attached a photo to demonstrate.

I gotta tell ya, it has worked out pretty well, because I identified a weird patch on my neck that, at first, I was shaving across the grain with would result in a pretty bad burn. And other places that just werent getting hit in the direction they should be because I thought they were growing in the direction of the beard a few inches over.

Please dont do this to your mirror if you've spent lots of money on it, because I'm not even sure the sharpie will come off after it has dried!! What do ya think?

I think X is referring to something in the southerly regions... Could be wrong, though.

Superock, that's a very cool photo and great suggestion. I think I've heard of someone over at Badger & Blade doing something similar, but your visuals were helpful.

The marker might come off with some strong glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol, but I'm not sure.
