Default Newbie Needing some info regarding razor and honing!!

I am a 17 year old beginner enthusiast that has fallen in love with straight razors! I just picked up a Dubl Duck Satin edge Bresduck from ebay for 70$. I really want to get some more info on these razors whether they are good or not? especially how old it is if anyone can tell me? The seller said the razor was shave ready however I doubt it as it doesent pass the hanging hair test, so I would like to get this razor professionally hand honed. I want to do it right the first time and make sure I have a good blade so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

I got a couple of these and I think they are the best. Pro hone is the best place to start then you know what the very best edge is. How ever I would give it a go before you send it out. It may be shave ready. If not and advertised that way ask for some money back. :<0) I hate when a seller does that. It could be honed to the sellers liking so you have to consider that also.
Look here for awhile and keep a drool bucket handy .

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

HHT means nothing, unless you have taken the time to qualify it with known edges... and even then it is quite limited

The shave test is the real test, What is a shave test ???? funny you should ask

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/video...-test-vid.html

There is a shave test for an unknown razor

There are several guys that Hone razors on your side of the border they are in the classifieds under member services
Try the shave test as shown in the vid first then have it honed if needed..

Oh yeah, Welcome to SRP and Yes DD's are good razors

    Great looking razor!!!
The hanging hair test isn't always a valid test and a shave test is the real test. I would do a shave test on one check and see how it is. If it's bad (tugs, pulls), finish with what ever you use now. There should be some Canadian honers on here if you need it.

I'd say you can't go wrong with a dubl duck. I don't have the most experience with them though. But judging by how much they usually go for on the bay, I'd say there is something special about them!

Great shaver, take care of it.
Honing is difficult, don't start on such a beautiful blade and ask for the help of a professional.
If you can find anyone close to you go and look how he works, that's the best to start.

Just a heads up, I have merged your 2 identical threads together into one spot, there really is no need to double post threads like that on SRP one time will get plenty of responses very quickly as you can see
We are a very active and very helpful forum..

    Many Thanks
