Do you ever feel like you're getting worse at shaving?

Yes, here where we're currently in a nice blizzard like snow storm, with -10 -20 degress, the air is supremely dry here. I had to put some Fromm Strop conditioner on my strops because they were literally becoming brittle...so yes, as sharptonn says, sometimes when it's dry, a bit of extra prep goes a long way. I've been using a sample of E-Shave pre-shave oil (very nice) or my Proraso pre-shave...does make a difference!

My favorite cure is about 6 drops of vitamin E oil rubbed in good before bed. For some reason, if it is cold, I get a better shave with 1 hot towel-over -lather than the customary 2!

No, not since I first tried 30 years ago for a few months. It could be what you describe and I'll experiment changing things up some.

I'm tempted to try cold water, but have had times when in the Army that I had to do that, and wasn't very fond of it.

I'm trying everything else first! I do hot towel over lather now. Maybe I'll try changing just one thing at a time.

Sharpton. this is a great post
weather has alot to do with skin condition and shaving, we have been in the 20s for two weeks,not that cold for some,about 20% Humiidty
Makes a diff.

I just settled on the E oil as it works great for me. I apply before bedtime and it has soaked in overnite for my morning shave. I truly feel into the skin AND hairs. Too greasy to apply directly before shaving, to me.

So true, Pixel. The other morning, I grabbed the Trumper's limes and face lathered a wad and shaved with a big Sheffield. Pretty stingy shave and not so close. Slightly irritated for half a day. I realized I had not prepped and was only dreaming of a summer shave! :D Didn't happen! :p

Mebbe I will do the prep and go with somethin creamier and go with it again tomorrow morning with the same razor and report back.

I think we all tend to hit the wall after a certain period of time. Gain a bit of confidence, expectations go up, you think you have it all nailed down and then you get knocked down a few pegs. I know it happened to me. Hell, after my first handful of shaves I didn't cut myself and I thought it was easy, until I got that first slice.... :)

I've always said you can't hit 'em out of the park all the time. Even now my shaves are very consistent but there's that odd time where I think I could have done a little better. But there's always tomorrow, right?

:D Winter shaves. Moisturize and winterize. Use the proper soap, something more creamy and wet for lather, preshaves, all that! Different preps for different folks, and climates!
