That looks like a good razor, the profile is pretty standard and will be a good beginner's razor. As far as the blade hitting the scales goes, in my opinion it's possible that being that the scales are wooden the scales may be slightly warped. It's possible that it could be un-pinned and maybe a washer used to fix the problem. I have some razors with the same problem. It doesn't bother me too much, I just need to remember to close the razor very carefully. Of course, if the blade DOES hit the scales it'll dull the edge. Another option is to buy new scales, or buy a very cheap razor with a stuffed blade JUST for the scales.
I haven't been able to view the ad, so I'm not sure if the razor has been honed. If not, it'll need to be honed, and maybe you could ask the honer to try and re-align the scales or even put new ones on?
