Default Gift for my son.. Kind of late, no time to shop/choose.

My 23 year old son is graduating from Baylor University on May 17.

He had been using a single edge razor from his Great Grandads medicine cabinet for a while and I think I want to buy him a straight razor setup. His Roomate used one and he always mentioned wanting to be able to give it a try.

Been over at SRD and picked out (based on availability) the following from their sets:

Ralph Aust 5/8 Black Razor (only other in stock is a Dovo 5/8 and 6/8)
    3" fancy English Bridle Strop
    Silver tip badger brush
    Black brush stand
    Black apothecary bowl
    West Indies scented soap
    Large styptic pencil

Any gotchas in this. Price is not an issue, but I need to order Monday to get it before the end of the week.

    Thanks!

Only thing I can think of is Lynn's DVD on how to shave with a straight...
TONS and TONS of GREAT info in there!

Sound like you did some homework, all top quality stuff and the blade will be pro honed.

If he dings up the strop learning replacement leather is available.

You can call them Lynn or Don are great and can answer any additional questions prior to finalizing the order.

Congrats to you and your Son.

Cool! The boy could do tons worse than a SE! Great shavers. Lots of us in the Houston area and a honing clinic going on down in the Texas thread in get togethers. Like to see you both here on the 25th.
My daughter starts at Baylor in the fall! SRD is the fastest, most informative vendor ever. You have no worries!

    Thanks!

I also had the DVD in there already.. Forgot to list it.

Sharpton - My sons experience at Baylor was phenomenal! Great Christian atmosphere. Nice campus, far enough away to be on his own, but close enough to visit. I hope your daughter has an equally fulfilling experience!

I will look into the meet up, thanks for the heads up!

Lynn's DVD is a classic! (My Mentor!) Thanks for the Baylor encouragement! My first two did well at A&M but this one was accepted at Baylor with a super deal! (poor Dad, great grades!) . I am so encouraged by this. Looking forward to meeting you both. PM me if you cannot find the Texas thread!

Awesome! My Baylor Grad was on a full academic ride (nat'l merit scholar, the whole works) otherwise there is no way we could have footed that bill.

My 19 year old is a freshly minted "pisshead" (just completed his fish year) in the Corps of Cadets at A&M. He is on a Navy Scholarship that is paying most of his way. He loves to Corps, but is struggling a bit with adjusting to college academics.

An alum block might help if new on the straights, the rest looks like a sweet starter kit
    Saved,
    to shave another day.
