Newbie in Minneapolis

Hello all, I finally got my first razor from the SRP classifieds (Dovo Inox) and bought all the accessories that goes along with shaving. When I bought the razor it stated shave ready and recently honed but I have my concerns, since never using a straight razor before. I went through all the things you are supposed to do before shaving or getting ready to shave but when I shaved after my shower I noticed the blade snagged on my couple days growth like a old disposable razor would, I'm guessing this is not how its supposed to feel. I only tried the sides of my face and a little of my chin but decided to stop before injuring myself.
Does anyone know of a good place in the minneapolis area that hones and sharpens straight razors and places that gives tutorial lessons. Any help would be much appreciated

Certainly if you can hook-up with someone do it.

The first task is deciding if the razor IS shave ready. If it is then realize this is a skill and it takes time. Most require weeks of shaving to begin to get good results and it can take many months to become truly competent.

Start slow doing just the sides of the face with simple WTG strokes. Watch the pressure and angles. If you try and do it all at first unless you are one of the very few that adapt like a natural disappointment will be the result.

Shaving is kind of like taking math. One course builds on the other. If you try and take Calculus before basic Algebra you will be in trouble.
