Each new nick is a mystery; this morning I dinged the backside of an earlobe. Seriously. WTF?

Got a good one on my neck that way.

I haven't made that same mistake yet and hope I don't anytime soon

No worries, part of the process is learning these errors on our own, you got a big one out of the way early without any major damage - that's good!

The one that I dread, is the damaging the razor, through dropping it or dinging it on something. So with that in mind, never just put your razor down, always have a place to set it down if you need to. I have a folded towel by the side of the sink, well back from the edge, for just such a circumstance...the idea of banging a chip out of one of my blades just gets me to clinch up tighter than a crab's a$$ in a rain barrel....just sayin'

well said Phrank i use a folded towel also, one thing to keep in mind anytime the razor is out "mind the blade" i tell myself that even while shaving. Angles and mind the blade.

Cutting myself helped me to focus on blade control too. Shaving around the cut while still getting a good shave was an interesting challenge. Far be it for me to let a little cut interfere with the learning process

Yep... It is just "one of those things" that goes along with this hobby... Last week I had a comb in my right hand to pull up my goatee (growing it Epic) and the SR was in my left. I was leaning in so closely to the mirror I didn't want to lean back and re-position so tried to do a blind-flip to move the SR into position by pushing on the 'tang'... Yep... ZAP! Pushed my thumb right onto the convex portion of the heel and the blade didn't stop until it rebounded off my thumbnail! Blood everywhere again but not a nick on my face!

Before my first shave I sat down and asked my razor for advice and this is what it told me "never let your speed exceed your skill", I have heeded its advice and thus far my razor was right.

Load it up with Neosporin. Avoid it in the next few shaves, however you do it. Go lengthwise on the cut as resuming.
It will all work out.
