Welcome to the forum. There are a few members in Alberta and a few in or around Edmonton IIRC. I read the descrition of the the razor you linked to and in it it says "Pre-Sharpened by Thiers Issard" . That to me suggests that the edge is the one that is supplied from the factory. Factory edges have been know to iffy and the edge may have needed fine tuning right out of the box too.

Some retailers hone a brand new razor before sending it out because of this just to make sure it is really shave ready for the customer. Not all retailers do this though.

I am sure you will be able to get some help with that locally.

yea possibly. When I first used it .. it wiped my shaving cream and got may be 20 hair off the cheek. And I started to think .. wow this is not exactly what I wanted to see (and paid for!!!). I did it again .. this time with a tad more force and got some more hair with a lot of pulling-type feeling, so I was convinced this is not good to go.

I have contacted a few locals active on the forum so lets see ..

Hi and welcome. From your description I would say it definitively needs a honing. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Indeed, sounds like it needs to be honed.

In my experience, I have found TI's factory honing to be hit and miss regardless of the model. I have opened entry-level models that had a great edge out of the packaging and high-end limited editions models that were dull.

You also want to make sure your lather is thick and cushiony.

Maybe it needs to be honed but let me compliment you on one gorgeous razor. Nice choice.

Thanks! I wanted to stay under $200 and thought one of the replicas were nicely priced.

    Hi,

i'm also a new straight shaver living in Edmonton (been DE shaving for almost a year). Were you able to find a local honemeister? I have a razor now badly in need, and may be purchasing another one around Christmas time!

    thanks everyone
