Soap Stings

Hey all,

I just wanted to ask for some advice: The soap that I am currently using, SRD 100% Pure Essential Oil - Sandalwood, stings after sitting on my face for about a minute. It stings before any shaving is done on that area, and it stings after I shave there unless I wipe that area down with a wet cloth. What should I do? Is this a common problem?

You might have an allergy to the Essentail oil used. That would be my guess. I doubt that it would be anything else in the soap, I believe they're glycerin based shave soaps although I'm not sure about that.

You may be having a reaction to some ingredient in the soap and it does happen to people from time to time. Have you tried a different shave soap to see if you get the same thing with it? There are also shave soaps made specifically for sensitive skin that might be worth looking into if you have trouble like that with multiple different soaps.

+1 to the "it may be one of the ingredients"
You may be able to mitigate some of the reaction by trying cold/cool water shaving.

If irritation occurs discontinue use

Sounds like your skin does not agree with that particular soap. Try something new maybe even something for sensitive skin

All good advice being given. To avoid spending large amounts of cash to find compatible soaps do investigate the soaps/creams for sensitive skin. Even there you might run into some product that irritates, but you have, at that point, narrowed the field and saved much money. In most cases ingredients are listed. Common ingredients that are widely used that cause irritation are menthol, eucalyptus, Shea Butter and, as you have found out some essential oils.
