Thread: Razor storage question

As I have young children, I bought a small case with a combination lock for storing my razor in. My razor came with one of those silicone oil impregnated sleeves, and my question is: Is it ok to store the razor in its sleeve inside the case, or will this prevent some kind of necessary evaporation process that the sleeves are designed for?

Regardless of how it is stored it should be allowed to air dry for a bit. Getting the blade to the air dry part has several paths. The library has several methods from just a towel wipe to hot water and tissues.

I would be more concerned about the sudden grabbing of a leg just as you start a shave stroke. Many fathers shave when the wee ones are asleep.

Depends on how little they are but a good education on how blood loss can be a very bad thing would also help. I can still remember some of the comment my father made to us boys when we were growing up about knives, guns, tools and such. Carefully thought out comments can take all temptation to play out of a child's mind and add the respect each object deserves.

If the scales are not made out of celluloid your storage just has to be dry and a little oil/protection doesn't hurt at all as long as it's not trapping water in pits and cracks.

They're aged 2, 3, 4 and 5. I did give the older ones a good lecture about my DE razor and how they were never to touch it, etc. plus I kept it stored pretty securely (I thought) inside a cabinet drawer. But with kids that age, you can bet on curiosity getting the better of them every time. A few months ago, despite all my stern lectures the 5 year old went rummaging for it and cut her finger. Only a minor cut, but now that I've acquired a straight obviously it would be a whole different story.

yep, EV, you have a lot of curiosity in your home and it will last for several years. Keep us posted on your progress.

The sleeves I'm pretty sure are more protection against moisture than anything else. All you really need to do is make sure that the razor is dry. 1 minute with a hair dryer might be worth while if you want to store it immediately
