First Shave, No Bloodshed!

After almost three weeks, I finally got my TI yesterday (immediately AFTER I had finished shaving, however!). This morning I had just enough stubble for me to give it a go.
Had a shower, lathered up with my Badger brush using Mama Bears unscented, hot toweled, stropped on TM strop, and picked up the razor for the first time. At first I found it a little difficult to hold the razor properly, but after a few minutes, I was a little more comfortable. I shaved my whole face, despite my intentions to try 'just a patch', since I just couldn't resist.
I did about two passes, and then cleaned up some missed spots with just water (i've yet to figure out the grain direction thoroughly in those tricky spots). What a fantastic experience! I love the 'scritchy' sound the razor makes as you make your strokes, and how much concentration it requires! A very nice change in my morning routine. Although it probably took me a half hour to shave, i'm sure that time will drop as I become more accustomed.
Face feels very smooth - and no cuts to speak of (this time, at least!).
So one question: after drying the razor, it had some scum, I'm assuming from soap, or perhaps the water here is a little hard. How do you guys keep your blade looking nice and polished afterwards?

Thanks for all the knowledge i've accumulated from you guys - it made the whole first experience a lot smoother than it would have been otherwise!

Congrats! I don't keep my blade looking nice and polished. I leave mine looking tough and angry! Ready for more whiskers tomorrow.

Half hour is about right. Don't rush it, enjoy it, heck, relish it!

I wipe my blades after shaving with a towel and then rubbing alcohol and then I let it air dry before putting them to bed ina cedar cigar box. That seems to keep them pretty happy.

I dry mine on a towel, strop it on the towel a little then place it back in my drawer with my others. They seem to stay pretty shinny that way.

Nice start, keep taking your time and enjoying it. When you stop paying attention you'll get bit by your razor.
