Right hand right side - left hand left side?!

Good evening gentelmen

I've only been shaving with a SR since the beginning of this year. So here's a noob question: i've been shaving the left side of my face with my right hand and Vica versa (WTG and ATG).

Just realized that a lot of people use their right hand to the right side of their face and vice versa?!

Is there a "right" way and would I be better of learning to do the above? Saw some videos where shavers changed hands as they changed to XTG or ATG?

Hi Versus - in the end, whatever works for you is the best.

Having said that, for me, I use right hand for right side (and corresponding left hand, left side) for the WTG passes, and use alternate hands for the XTG and ATG passes.

WTG left for left and right for right
XTG and ATG left for right side and right for left.

Your beard pattern will make some difference in your angles of approach.

I'm another using the exact technique that Phrank and JTmke use. My guess is that this is one of the more well used methods for getting the job done. The directions will be the same but everyones angles will be different. You just have to experiment and find what works best for you.

At first, I hesitated to become ambidextrous. But now it is completely natural, even shaving my upper lip, and I love the way my hands have learned to handle the blade so easily. I encourage you to give it a try. It took me 20 or so shaves to feel completely comfortable with the switch, but worth it, I feel.

What Phrank and JTmke said... plus, when shaving my jawline (ear-to-chin), I do right-right and left-left, but with my hand at ear level, blade tip pointing down. I know it might seem contorted, but it also lets me get below the jawline.

"There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's". Follows true to shaving. Though my barber says you should always use your dominant hand, due to better fine motor skills, and learn cross hand holds.

For me, I use both. Just slower with my left.
