Thread: Storing Straight Razors with toddlers in the house

So I have only been doing straight razor shaving for about a month now, and used a shavette for a month and a half before that. I am curious what methods those of you with little ones in the house use to keep them away from the straights. My oldest is almost three, and child proof drawer stops don't even slow her down. I have started putting it as high as I can in the bathroom, but I also have four other razors I need to store, outside of the bathroom. I would like to avoid any accidents, because she likes to play with anything she can get her hands on.

Does she get into your room unsupervised? If not, store everything there until she is old enough to understand "Don't TOUCH".

I moved all my sharp things in the house to either my workshop or the master bed room. She is at the age where she is exploring everything, and can open doors on her own. Last week she found and figured out how to get the sheath off one of my hunting knives. This was less than two minutes from when she dissapeared to when I went and found her. That one is dull enough that unless she falls on it, it probably won't cut her, but it made me very nervous. If she simply grabed one of my straigts by the blade, I imagine she would cut herself pretty badly. Don't have a safe or anything, but am just looking for suggestions. Right now, everything is in the top drawer of the dresser, which doesn't lock, but is hard to get into.

A hook and eye high up on your bedroom door might not be a bad plan. It is not pretty but you can get locking cash boxes at staples and big box stores for very little money.

+1 to the lock box notion. Added advantage is that next year, when she has out grown this stage, you have a spot for important documents and paperwork.

No toddlers in the house but I still keep mine in the gun safe. I'm getting to the point that I lmight need to get a razor safe.

Like we used to do bear country with food,Put your razors in a box,Block and tackle up a High tree works. get um 20 ft in the air,Geez.

Sorry for the poor quality photo, but my wife bought this small cabinet for me. The glass display lid is lockable. Also on the side of the cabinet is another key hole that locks the drawers.
