New strop recommendations

Howdy y'all.

I've been using my poor mans strop from Larry while I learn to shave and strop. I'm to the point where I'm consistently shaving well and stropping well, and I'd like to get a better strop. I'm kind of thrifty but I'd like a 3" wide. Any recommendations out there?

You can't go wrong with a 3" from SRD. Lots to choose from in leathers and secondary fabrics too. Mine is a Premium 1 leather with Premium fabric and my razors love it.

+1 on the SRD strops. Mine is the premium 2 with premium fabric. Excellent strop. Based on your picture you might want to go with the bridle leather version. Actually, I wish that's the one I had gotten. I'd bet they are all equally great as far as the razor is concerned.

What kind of draw do you like? That would narrow it down, SRD has done good strops , but there are others too, not sure what your wanting to spend. Scruple works is another I would recommend, then it starts getting a little more expensive. But the draw will dictate, I have a SRD Roo strop that I like a lot, it has little to no draw. But my Kanayama is my favorite slick as goose crap on ice. Tc

I'll put my 2 cents in and say a Tony Miller Heirloom fast bridle strop.
It's been my go to strop since I've gotten it. Very smooth and slick. The only problem is that they aren't always available. He makes small batches of them and they sell out quick.

Can't go wrong with an SRD strop, I love mine. But I'm looking to get a tony miller strop as well. Have heard nothing but great things about tony and his products.

While I have only been using a true straight for about 3 weeks now (been using a shavette for nearly 4 months), strops are somewhat new to me. But I can definitely recommend a strop from SRD. From what little bit of experience I have, I can tell I have a very good strop.

I currently have the English bridle (premium IV leather) with matched webbing as my second material. But as I get better, I may pick up a Premium 1 leather strop as I have read posts from members saying that the Premium 1 has a really nice finishing ability to it. They will use about 30-40 laps on the bridle and finish with 30-40 laps on the premium 1 for an exceptionally well polished edge.

One thing of note. The leather, as well as the webbing/fabric sides of the strops, on the SRD strops is easily replaceable. If you cut your strop or with to try a different leather, you can always order a new piece of leather, unscrew the hardware, and affix the new leather. No need to purchase a complete strop if you screw up your strop beyond repair.

+1 to this. I have a Tony Miller and its awesome.

I also got a SRD Modular Paddle strop to practice on first and its really nice as well.

I use either one depending on my mood.

Is that as slick as deer guts on a doorknob?

Yes it is!!!! , on a scale of 1-10 the deer guts on a doorknob is a 9 , goose crap on ice is 8.75. Tc
