Without a photo, sounds like the grind of the blade and you didn't notice before? See how it shaves, should be fine.

Here is a video that someone showed me once (took a while to find it), that may be helpful in determining whether or not your edge is rolled or has a wire edge:

If the razor is shaving well, it is likely is fine. I'd think you're really notice it during shaving, if it was rolled. More experienced folks can chime in.

If you haven't already, check out the videos on stropping (or revisit them) - it's always good to make sure you're stropping is not making things worse (probably not in this case).

Hmmm...yeah. I don't think it's rolled. I think it's just how the blade was sharpened. It defiantly does not have a wire edge. I've found pre-shave face treatment is crucial for a no-hassle shave. The hair 'catching' I noticed before I believe was from poor pre-shave treatment and not enough stropping.

On another note I had a very successful shave today. I believe this is my 5th shave. No nicks, no cuts, and VERY little razor burn if any. I think I've upgraded from beginner to intermediate. Also my grandmother gave me my late grandfather's old boar bristle brush and old spice shaving mug. She said he got it as a present way back when they first got married.(She's 88 years old) She told me it must be at least 55 years old, if not older. O_O
The brush is softer than mine. I imagine because it's just broken in and aged. I like it. Very nostalgic.

If you get it re honed, try stropping with zero pressure, just the weight of the blade. Better safe than sorry.

What a nice gift! Something to always remember him by, when you shave.

Good to see you're having more success...it takes time to get into the rhythm of the whole process, but over time things get easier and easier. Sounds like you're on the right path!

I received the same setup from my grandmother after my grandfather passed away back in 92. It's been in a box in the attic all these years but now that I have fallen into the world of straight and DE shaving I have pulled them out and made room for them on my sink vanity. It's great. I never would have thought I would look forward to a shave until now. I have a beard most of my life due to the fact that it requires much less shave time to trim up than to shave. Now I can't wait for shave day.

Glad to hear it's going better. That's very cool on the "antique" mug and brush. I went into an antique store a couple of weeks ago and most of the "antiques" were stuff from when I was in my 20's. What the heck?
