I survived my first shave

My ugly Whipped Dog razors arrived yesterday and I had my first shave this morning.

Those razors sure won't win any beauty pageants (that actually endears me to them), but they are SHARP. I goofed up my lather and for the first time ever made it too dry. It still cut right through my whiskers and didn't hang up. Yes, it would have been a lot more smooth and pleasant had my lather not been flaking off my face like dandruff, but still...

I took Lynn's advice and stuck to my cheeks for this attempt and that was plenty. I still need to figure out how to see around my hand/arm and how to maneuver the razor around the facial hair that I want to keep.

It feels doable, but I need practice.

It's great your actually listening to the advice, congrats. Your learning curve will be shortened by taking the slow approach. It takes a lot of shaves no matter how you get there but it's so much easier on your face to do the nice and easy route.

Your angles and how you approach will come with more experience and confidence, just keep your pressures light, learn to strop properly and with any doubts get the blade honed again, learning is so much easier with a blade that is right, enjoy the shave. Tc

If the lather gets dry there's no shame in a quick touch up with the brush.

The way it goes is practice practice practice. It take a little while to get used to the motion. It's not rocket science, I managed to figured it out, with a little advice. Keep up the good work and you will be doing like you have always been shaving with a straight.

Congratulations on your first shave. If the lather on your face gets too dry, a brush full of wet lather will cure that in just a second.

Well, got #2 in the books and still no cuts. My first stropping, too.

Man, I really had to concentrate to get myself to slow down on the stropping. That's easier to screw up than it appears. No nicks in the strop, but I kept letting the strop sag a but and kept losing contact between the razor and the leather.
